Hey, just to set the record straight, I first used the word Woot-tard ™ here, about a month ago you morons, to describe stinky pete, so your genius invention of the word last night was a copyright infringement, and you owe me some $$$$ beeyotches!!!
We all agree, then. Pete666 is the original wootard.
I never paid much attention to this bundle when it was up before, but I just bought a car and am giving it some thought. Right now I’m using an FM transmitter with an iPod as my CD collection, and having something without batteries that is less likely to get stolen sounds pretty good.

Can some of you who bought this one of the past times give me some feedback on how you liked it? How is the WiFi transmission? Is the little faceplace looking piece in the picture actually deeper than that (like a stereo unit), or is that just kind of like a remote for the MP3 unit? It talks about input being through aux inputs or an RF modulator–does that mean I need a stereo with a line input and a patch cord to get this to work? I’ve got a stock unit in a Mazda 626 right now, having to shell out more to replace the deck may be a dealbreaker for me. Thanks for your help!
What year and model Mazda do you have again??

I have this in my 98 VW Jetta… originally I thought my head end would work with and aux converter. Alas, I bought the converter but the head end unit did not work with it. So I went to Crutchfields and bought a blaupunk MP3 CD car unit for $132 which included the wireing harness, removal tool, antena addapter and for $12 the aux converter. It also came with great do-it-yourself instructions. No cutting just pull out and sliip in.

As for the Wifi, that project will be for this weekend… I am very happy with this unit. and there is a users group on Yahoo with the latest firmware upgrades, and software modifications available… just go to Yahoo and search for Omnifi… If you have any other questions and post them there you will get much more feedback…

If you car is newer then 1998 there is a chance the head end is CD player ready… if it is there is a good change they make a cd to aux converter that will plug into your existing radio and give you the rca connections to plug the omnifi into… I would suggest going to the yahoo group for more info…

Hope this helps you out… enjoy…

the new site will be brought up over the weekend and there might be some down time, so there’s no photoshop contest this time around.
i promise it’ll all be worth it in the end. :D
Yeah, the checks in the mail…
No, I won’t come…

Just got a head unit (Audiobahn A3451d). This is a good woot though as headunits with memory alone used to cause into the thousands.

I’ve got two (only one installed so far), and like it pretty well (well enought to buy the second for my other car). I’ve never gotten the WiFi to work, but I don’t add new music very often so I just pop the HD out and sync it manually.

The faceplate is about half and inch deep, not counting the knob on the front. I’ve got mine surface mounted (sort of). The wire to it can be made to come out either side or the bottom, IIRC.

The output of the unit is standard RCA jacks, so you’ll need an aux input on your deck, and FM modulator, or like me, a tape deck adaptor. The one thing I found is the output is pretty hot, so it was overdriving my deck. Had to get an inline volume control to tune it down. Cheapo headphone thing from Radio Shack did the trick.

Mine’s actually installed in my company car, so everything is installed without moding the car at all. Power is supplied by one of the cigarette jacks (not provided with unit, wired it up myself), sound goes through the tape deck adaptor, control unit is actually mounted on a vent mount for a PDA, and the wiring and HD unit is shoved between the passenger seat and console. Ghetto, but it works and I didn’t have to take so much as a screwdriver to the car.

Is it CD Changer ready?? If so you can search for an aux converter for it. What make and model car do you have??

i feel like a woot tard for staying up to watch this repeat!!! bundle it in a BOC and maybe we’ll make a deal  it wasn’t even worth me posting on the first page…even if PEOPLE find it neccessary to reply by making us read the same big article about the product…thats really lame guys.

This again? They should at leat lower the price a bit

aaaaannnnnd…since 666 is only a clone created to spoof petromans11, stinky pete is the big-band of woot-tardedness!!!
kudos

You mean like this e-mail that I recieved from woot exactly 3 months ago?

Hey AggieG15… you are welcome… I went to Crutchfields, punched in your car and found 80 units that will fit it. Of them I did not find the exact unit but they do have the newer model Pioneer DEH-P7700MP for $269.99. According to the specs it shows the Aux input to be optional. This means that one is available and needs to be purchased separate from the radio itself… Shipping is free and when you pick the unit they show all availalbe accessories. If you are ready to spend $249 for the DEH-7600mp… I would highly recommend going for any one of similar specs from crutchfiels. Lifetime tech support, wireing harness is included for free as is the instructions for doing it yourself… here is the page for this unit

UPDATE…

I found the unit you sent me… it is no longer available from crutchfields. According to the specs this unit does not have an AUX input so an aux converter would be needed. Instead of doing that I would recommend a newer model with aux available. Here is the specs page for the unit you are thinking about using.

Decent deal but still waiting on some 5.1 speakers!

I’m pretty sure the Aux inputs are there. When I installed it there were 2 inputs, one white and one red at the back of the unit. That’s it, correct?

I guess what I really want to do is just get a hard drive and have it plug into my cd player. I don’t think I can do that with this - If I bought today’s woot I’d have to control what’s on the hard drive with the provided controller…is that right?

Either way, I have no use for the home unit.

could i potentially use this as some sort of mp3 player simmilar to an ipod? is it something i could carry around with me if, say, i wanted to use it at a party or something where i didn’t have my computer? i’m just not entirely sure exactly how this thing works and was hoping it would be a great alternative to an ipod completely. i want to buy one, but if i can only use it in the car and near my computer then i’m not entirely sure i’d be willing to fork down the dough…

Does anyone know if this works with the changer attachment in a VW New beetle? The cd changer in mine just totally flipped out, cds won’t play for sh*t. Replacement cost from VW? 400$, and that’s the only place that makes em.

Those are probably for a pre amp and are outputs not imputs. The good news is that there is an aux converter available and crutchfields has it. here is the link

This will allow you to use the unit you already have with this woot… you will not be able to connect a cd changer however because this will convert the cd changer connection to an aux connection… then all you do is install the omnifi and you are all set and ready to rock…

UPDATE

Found this listed on the same unit at crutchfields

Optional Aux Input: When used with item 130CDRB10 (sold separately) or item 130CDRB20 (sold separately), this unit can accept input from an auxiliary source, such as a portable CD or MD player. When item 130CDRB10 is used, a CD changer cannot be connected to this unit. Item 130CDRB20 allows you to connect an optional Pioneer CD changer and an auxiliary source to this unit.

This aux converter costs more then the one I posted but is available here

hope this has helped…

Hi there.

WiFi works well, but the range doesn’t seem very good. Maybe I’ve got it next to too much metal but I can’t park it in my driveway and get coverage from the house, and that’s only ~30 ft away. Then again, I’ve never wardialed myself–I should take the laptop out there and see if that sees the network.

The faceplace is as wide and tall as a D? whatever the standard stereo size is–but as you note it’s very shallow. It looks pretty sweet right under the stereo. The eject function and faceplace mount are pretty flimsy-feeling for car audio. Maybe I’m just used to good faceplates. The display is nice and bright and readable.

I’ve had some pretty annoying problems with the unit skipping at 90+ MPH (which is my daily drive speed–don’t tell the pigs.) I’ve got it mounted flat on the floor, though–the manual recommends that you mount it vertically, with the hard drive ejecting upwards, but I didn’t have anyplace in my hoopty where that’d be convenient. I’m going to try replacing the screws I’m using to bolt it to the floor with some hot glue and rubber–it’ll look ghetto, but it’s under the driver’s side seat, so who gives a *($#?

Frankly, I’m also pretty disappointed with the navigation features. For a design with about 20 buttons on the faceplate, it seems pretty hard to do some stuff. One thing I really want to be able to do, and maybe it’s only me that likes to do this, is put the mp3 player on random (OmniFi calls it shuffle), and when a random song by an artist comes up I’ll often say to myself “Hey, these are the guys that did that cool Sex Dwarf song”, and then want to go to another song by that group. No good way to do that on the DMP1.

The thing sometimes crashes on me. It’s not often, but every once in a while it won’t come on and I’ll have to eject the hard drive and plug it back in. I’ve also noticed it “forget” what it was doing and come back on at the top level menu, and this actually happens sort of frequently. I do the same thing every time–just listen randomly to all media–but if you had some band or album selected and you had to navigate to it again when the unit did this, I bet you’d find it kind of annoying.

All that said, I’m still quite happy with the unit for the price (though this will be less true if once I finally get off my ass and re-install the hard drive with some shock absorption it still skips.)

God Bless the UK.
