These are amazing. If you have time warner cable, you can use this with the tmc app and get rid of that monthly cost and still have all the digital Chanel’s.

For product comparison:

I have this same model. Love it. It’s way faster than the apps on my wi-fi enabled DVD player, and there are TONS more options. Never once had a problem with my Roku, and this is a great deal.

Was hoping for a 2XS or a 3

Guess I’ll wait till later.

Can the Roku be used to stream media from an ipad or iphone?

One of the biggest negatives I’ve seen was the lack of a native youtube channel.

Well, the Roku 3 just got one. (see
“The channel is expected to be available on additional player models next year.” Not sure if that means only the current generation, or if it will include last seasons models—ie, this model.

Got this model for the RYW output for the old TV in the bedroom. Run Plex server for your media and be happy.

The quick answer is yes, have a look at the free roku app in the app store. It may only work for media on the device, and other restrictions may apply, I have not tried this myself.

That app is really nice as a replacement for the provided remote, any idevice or android can control the roku.

Love my XS.

Yes, I use android, so I can’t speak on any limitations it may have:

The TWC app doesn’t have all the channels, and the picture quality isn’t great, and, while there are some on-demand programs, most channels have to be watched in real time.

But it’s better than nothing.

more detail (shows all model numbers):

How does it compare to Chromecast?

I have this from the last sale. Chrome only shows what’s on your Phone plus a few channels. Roku shows just about everything except YouTube. I like the Android remote app too. Chrome will probably have a bunch of channels and apps eventually, but Roku has them now. Plus you can hook it up to a dvd recorder, since it has RCA outputs as well as HDMI.

Does this have a micro-SD slot? Woot specs say
Storage Expansion:
microSD card slot for additional game and channel storage (Max Size: 16GB) (card not included)

does not have a check box for micro-SD on the Roku 2, and no mention of it on

so I’m thinking probably not
but then again… the woot picture shows one, and the roku-2 in the picture is very different from the roku-2 on the roku web site. Hmmmm

I am using the TWC app right next to my computer on my ROKU and the channels look awesome. Might want to recheck as they have added a ton more channels and the on demand has greatly expanded. They now have HBO Go app as well. Not saying its the exact same as having a box but with all channels going digital I would rather pay for this system once than a monthly rate. I have a Digital box up stairs I pay 12.95/mo for that I can/have replace with this for a one time fee.

Roku just got YouTube about 2 days ago.
