A) how good is this deal, in comparison to the newegg deals and amazon kickbacks lately?

B) regardless of price, how drastic and different is this from netflix? I understand the box, and what it does, but I also understand that it ‘provides’ a large amount of channels, some of which are just youtube aggregates and others tend to be things I’d rather watch to put me to sleep. Basically, is Roku worth it right now in 2014 for the channels? Or if I just need a nice streamer, is this the one?

Regardless, I’m at work wooting and not working, cheers all

GOOD MORNING WOOTERS!

Hi TT. Morning.

It does amazon prime instant streaming as well. They can be more functional than low end “smart” TV’s.

I got one to hook to a dumb Toshiba flat panel the roku3 HDMI spec is weird and won’t work with a number of sets. I got a chromecast it works fine in that set. The roku is now in a box somewhere.

Their CS is legendary, but not in a good way.

Roku https://www.roku.com/now-playing has the Netflix ‘channel’; it also has several dozen private Roku channnels http://streamfree.tv/apps/roku-private-channels/ as well as its own native channels http://www.rokuguide.com/, and Amazon Instant Video, HULU, VUDU etc. Thirteen new channels were launched in their store last week, which is about normal. The only caveat I have about the refurbs from Woot is that every one I’ve bought has arrived with DOA batteries in the remote. Put new ones in before you start setup.
edit:
Not enough coffee to format links. Do it your ownself. Good morning, TT!

Howdy! Happy Monday.

We use ours primarily for access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and our Plex server. It also has Hulu+ but we don’t subscribe. Comcast doesn’t let me get HBO Go through the Roku, so I use my Chromecast for that.

There are some other fun channels, some free and some not. My 4-year-old likes the PBS channel. There are a few channels with some really old school cartoons although some of them kind of suck. Plus lots of other things – Redbox, Vudu, Target Ticket, among others if you want to rent movies.

Interface is great. It’s so much easier to use than the horror that was our ‘smart’ BluRay.

Thanks for all the responses! I think I’ll personally pass – but this would be a good entry level streamer for the living room if you don’t have one already. I’ve got an X360, a chromecasted Nexus 7, and a media PC on our three TVs so the addition of Roku channels isn’t enough for me to justify…have a great day, Wooters!

HAPPY MONDAY!!! Hope things are going well for you this wonderful morning!

Already have one, but I highly recommend.

IMO you can’t have enough of these. Just bought a new one from that big warehouse club last week for $99. I needed Ethernet as the wifi connection was too weak for one TV. I buy FIOS at our winter home and use it to stream the cable using Slingboxes and mirror the streaming on our iPhones/iPads to our RoKus. I load up the FIOS channels and simply download over a high speed internet connection. We save one cable subscription.

I decided to finally buy one to replace my Sony Media Player in the bedroom. Got Roku’s in 2 other rooms and love them.

Does any one know if an Amazon Fire TV has ever hit woot? I haven’t noticed it, just wondering if I should get this or wait for a fire to hit.

I’ve heard great things about these, but I have an Xbox 360 and a Chromecast.

What would the Roku do for me that I can’t already do?

Help please folks…

Someone told me the shipping fees have changed on Woot. Does the 5.00 shipping apply only once per day when multible items are purchased that day or is it 5.00 per item regardless please?

Thanks a lot

So far I don’t believe they have and until they can put a good deal on them I doubt we will see them here. But that doesn’t mean they couldn’t show up it just means they are most likely to show up refurbished. I personally recommend the Roku 3, I have one and I have given a few as gifts to those who love netflix and amazon instant. I think it is a great buy and getting one on woot is a double win! Go for it!

$5.00 for your entire order.

Therefore 1 cartful of items is $5 shipping. Hope this helps!

You have to use the shopping cart to do it that way. It should be explicitly made clear, so I am doing so. Do not believe that you have to checkout with each item separately. On other sites if you put something in your cart and do not pay for it in x number of minutes it will be removed. I do not think that is how it works here. You can put the items in the cart over the course of the day, then check out all at once at the end of the day to get the $5 shipping. Please confirm. I have been burned myself by buying items separately, although woot was cool enough to let me off the hook. Thanks.
