So, Xbox?

Nope - This isn’t compatible with the Xbox.

CFexpress Type B is a format of memory card that is typically limited to higher-end mirrorless cameras. They have higher write speeds and durability than SD cards, so they are designed to store high bitrate video files, or for use in a camera that shoots fast sequences of photos that need to be written to storage very quickly to prevent missing shots. It’s not very common, but it’s known more among the digital photography crowd.

Hope that helps.

MS chose CFX for the Xbox X & S series memory expansion, but so far the only “approved” one is from Seagate. I suspect that means MS violated the spec to prevent the use of normal CFX cards.

Yes, MS has opted for that CFX pinout for their expansion drives, but they also need to run at a certain speed to be able to play well with the console OS, and instant-wake functionality, etc… It’s a slightly different class of drive; These cards on offer run at speeds well under the PCIe 3.0 capability (but still over double what SATA flash storage does, most of the time), but the supposed ratings for speed of XB expansion modules would be closer to what Sony has indicated for the PS5 expansion drives as well, which is close to the limits of PCIe gen 4… Several times faster, in all.

While you could probably plug something like this into the XBox, you are right - It won’t do you any good. And this class of memory card is definitely the wrong speed category anyway, being more geared toward photo/video, and not quite matching what the newer consoles were (thankfully) endowed with this generation.
