Pretty good reviews (4.6 out of 5.0) over at bestbuy.com

Just got this last week from previous woot. I adore this camera! The quality of the image and the color values are fantastic. It is really compact and easy to handle. Has all the functions you could need. I haven’t had a chance to try out most of the functions yet but what I have tried are amazing. The WiFi is pretty confusing but there is a really good walk through in the Apple app store’s feedback. Once I figured it out it was a fun and easy way to email or send a picture.

This camera is a fantastic value.

Awesome . . . Paul Simon . . just awesome. Sad, in a way though, that you had to link (probably) for the younger crowd.

This is a SOLID performer from Samsung, and a super inexpensive way to get into an ICL camera. I am really just shocked that Amazon has so many of these on hand still - at this price, which is almost criminally low for the quality / feature set, I’d be in for two or three if I hadn’t already bought a few as gifts. In other words, it is a steal.

Buy it.

BTW - for around $25 or less you can buy any number of adapters that will allow you to use other brand lenses on this little beauty (Canon, Nikon, Pentax) - check Amazon or eBay. With a 50mm Super Takumar m42 screw mount lens mounted on this camera with this adapter, you’ll stop taking pictures and begin capturing photographs - and the lens plus adapter will set you back less than a $100 on eBay. Your children will thank you when they grow up.

Have fun!

Can someone please tell me if the camera body is predominately metal or plastic ?

It is a very sturdy plastic. Doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy at all, in my opinion. You will read similar reviews of the build quality elsewhere.

Bought this in the Samsung cameras woot last week. After just a few days with the camera, I must have taken 500 ‘test shots’ of the only interesting subject I had available…cats.

The image quality is pretty amazing and the variety of features and settings are awesome. The included flash works really well, though you may not need a flash for a lot of things you used to need it for with a standard point-and-shoot.

The only gripe I have about this camera, and you will read other reviews which mention the same thing, is that the processing times can be really, really slow. Even with a decent high speed SD card (a Samsung class 4 was included, I replaced it with a class 6 I had around) the processing times on darker photos or photos where you use a lot of camera effects can be annoyingly long. However, for under 300 bucks it is hardly worth complaining about.

The camera is good, but be prepared to pay top dollar for any lenses you may purchase (telephoto, macro…). There are no third party lenses that work and Samsung’s lenses are expensive. You can buy a k-adaptor for $163 that will let you purchase less expensive lenses that will be fully compatible, or you can purchse a $20 k-adapter that will let you purchase same lenses, but will only work in manual mode. I like the camera, but I don’t like that the zoom is only 2x.

There are absolutely indeed third party (Korean) manufactured lenses (all fixed focal length primes that I know of) made for the NX format . . . They are just fairly expensive, comparatively (but the 85mm is a bargain, IMHO)! But, aside from these lenses listed below, there are other (better) alternatives out there - IF you are willing to shoot manually! More on that may be found in my prior post in this thread.

Expect more offerings soon from Korea (which are getting VERY surprisingly good [awesome actually] reviews as of late).

The issue is (for most) that they are not (dirt) cheap and depending on the specific NX model of camera you own, they may require some degree of manual operation! For some people, that is unacceptable, but when you step up to an ICLC you’ll get far better results taking it OFF automatic!

The NX “system” is a pretty tightly controlled “closed loop” with at least two different firmware for lenses - Samsung doesn’t make it easy for third party manufacturing - but they will loosen up soon and you’ll see some lenses from Sigma or the like come along perhaps - but they’ll probably more likely to be ‘store branded’ Pro-Optic Korean made lenses - LOL!

If you are willing to learn (just a little) and have a bit of patience, you can adapt some really great glass (for under $25 for the adapter) to this camera and shoot in manual mode and get astoundingly AMAZING results. Pictures vs. photographs! A lot of lenses that can render superior images with an inexpensive adapter on this camera will cost no more than $50 USD on eBay - but you will have to shoot in manual or aperture mode! Have fun!

EDIT - Yes, Samyang and Rokinon are the same (parent) company.

am I missing something or is this about $20 more on the mothership? I am tempted but it doesn’t seem like that great of a deal?

Love that song!

Amazon does not show or mention any Flash, perhaps that is an option that could add to the cost?

Is the lens detachable? Are there telephoto lenses you can get for this camera? Never mind. Read the posts.

Not a bad deal at all. The only thing to be noted is this lens does not have image stabilization. the newer version of their kit lens (18-55)mm has OIS. Of course price is a huge plus here. Wifi transfer and ability to control via smartphone app are other advantages (smartphone will add gps info too). Good bargain.

Bought this camera the last time it appeared here, and love it. I bought two optically stablized lenses, an 18-55mm and a 50-200mm. Look here

for other lenses. I’m finding I prefer the primes.

Hey WOOT!
I want to just say thank you for knowing who Ray Charles is and working one of his last great tunes into your woot words. As soon as I read what you wrote, it brought a smile to my face, thinking about my old friend.

And they offer a 4yr extended warranty for about the same price as the 2yr offered here.
