Relative to canning jar prices on AMAZON this is a good deal. Relative to any of the “big box” home / hardware stores (at least in the Chicago area) this is a ridiculously over priced deal. Menard’s, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc all have 16 oz. or 32 oz. canning jars (Ball, Kerr, etc.) with lid rings and seals for $11 to $13. The 4 oz or 8 oz “quilted” (as opposed to smooth sided) “jelly jars” are about $9 a dozen.
My guess is that the amazon price is what it is because the weight of these makes them a more costly to ship than most low priced items, and since Amazon has to have the absolute WORST standards for shipping/packaging they probably have to cover A LOT of breakage. (“Back in the day” they once shipped me incandescent light bulbs by simply placing the individual bulbs in the thin paper slid-over packages “tossed” into a large box - no air pillows, no bubble wrap, just 24 light bulbs rattling around in a 12 x 12 x 18 box.)
