Seen Any Good (or bad) Movies Lately?

I know that there is a “What Are You Streaming” thread, but movies are not quite the same, so… :man_shrugging:t3:

We do movie night every Saturday and we saw two REALLY bad flick last night, so… I’ll start.

We started out with this shit

Elevyn will watch the STUPIDEST movies… she once enjoyed a movie where ghost sharks appeared out of puddles and office water coolers. Even SHE hated this. We watched MAYBE fifteen minutes of it before even SHE was ready to turn this crap off. The “acting” was below subpar. The “effects” were worse something the kids on “Home Movies” would have come up with. (Now THAT is a good TV show, but I digress…) I mean… I got this for her because I know how much she hates stupid shit, but damn. When SHE doesn’t like it… you KNOW it’s a waste of time!

So fifteen minutes in, we pulled that crap off and tried this

This was a LITTLE better. We at least got all the way through it. It started off really good… for about five or ten minutes. It starts in 1930’s black and white with a chick and a mafioso crime boss. They actually used real identities for the characters - Lucky Luciano and Thelma Todd. I thought I was really going to like it.

Then we moved into Current Year, and like always, shit went down hill fast! The guys are thirty something year old surfer wannabes. That, in and of itself should be enough reason to forgo this. But that one dude… the bearded guy… OH. MY. GOSH. For starters, he cannot go anywhere without skipping and dancing. Like, AT ALL. The other two guys, while annoying, are still better than him. The girl, while attractive, is older looking than you would expect for a 1930’s starlet. As a ghost, she’s just annoying. In corporeal form, she’s not too bad.

The story itself could have been really good - 30’s starlet is killed by a Mafia crime boss and haunts the house BESIDE () where she was killed. The acting, though… While compared to “Catnado” these was Oscar winning performances, compared to everything else.. wow.

I guess if you’re stoned and have an hour and a half to kill… :man_shrugging:t3:

I hope next week goes better! :crossed_fingers:t3:

Tonight’s Feature Presentation is

Not too bad, but having first seen the first installment ( X (2022) - IMDb ) is pretty much required to fully grasp this one. As is usually the case, the first one was much better, though.

In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.

No where near as much nudity as the first, but there is some - I mean, it is about a porn star, so… - if that’s not your thing…

Also, this does spotlight the standard “Christianity bad; worldly view good” story line that most of hollyweird celebrates. Why did I like this, again?

Oh yeah… the actress is pretty good and easy to watch. And for the ladies… KEVIN BACON! :cowboy_hat_face: Nah, seriously, it’s a pretty good way to kill a couple of hours.

a’ight… I know this thread didn’t get any traction, but…

Saw a good movie tonight

which was based on a book (which I have also read)

https://www.amazon.com/Case-Christ-Journalists-Personal-Investigation/dp/0310345863

which is itself based on a true story of one man’s fact finding journey from atheist to Christian.

Finally saw a good one last night!

If you’ve ever seen, and liked, “Knowing” with Nicholas Cage (another GREAT movie) then you will like the ending of this one!

SPOILER ALERT!

This is only the second movie I have ever seen (“Knowing” being the other) where the world ACTUALLY ends and we arrogant humans can do nothing to stop it!  :+1:

It’s a B-movie without the B-movie feel. An asteroid has been detected on a collision course with Earth. This movie follows the main couple throughout their last night before the asteroid is set to hit. It was a little slow and, as always, I was yelling “are you fckng stupid!” at the main characters (why does NOBODY ever pick up the gun?) but overall we really enjoyed this one.

my imdb review for anyone who cares: Last Night on Earth (2024) - rebeltaz-18705's review of Last Night on Earth - IMDb

We saw a good movie tonight - Mummies.

If you like animated movies - and if you don’t… you really should refuse to grow up! - this was what family entertainment USED to be, before Disney took a knee.

I just watched Speed Racer (2008) - IMDb yesterday it was pretty good, not super into racing movies, but it kept me entertained with its zany antics. At first, I almost turned it off cause the beginning is very generic. I like games like Twisted metal and full auto so the cars tricks were enough to keep me hooked throughout It’s pretty formulaic with its underdog story, but still fun as a campy family movie.
