I have just done my svg work in inkscape and then convert it to dxf before opening in the silhouette program. A small inconvenience that saves you from having to buy their full version upgrade.
I have the older version and really like it. I only use it for making vinyl stencils for sand etching glass, but it works pretty well for me. Some of the higher dollar plotters will cut a slightly finer line, but at several times the cost. For most people they will not never even notice. This is by far the best bang for the buck.
