so tempting for the lifetime membership. I’m on the fence: keep running everything through Windows Media Center? or get an independent DVR/Streaming setup?

Unfortunately, a “lifetime membership” is only as good as the life of the company.

I came very close to buying one each time that Woot! offered it, but that requirement for a subscription stopped me.

I ended up buying the Mediasonic HW-150PVR HomeWorx ATSC Digital TV Converter Box with Media Player and Recording PVR Function/HDMI Out (Black) $38.99

No subscription required… just add a USB thumbdrive or harddrive.

I bought it solely to timeshift/record MeTV.

Not to be dumb, but do I need any kind of TV provider? Or does this pick up the OTA signal on it’s own AND record?

I bought the earlier version of this but it was total crap. It picked up antenna Ok but it froze constantly and just didn’t prove reliable. I tried hooking it to cable but you have to map the channels to human friendly form… I am not sure of the details of why but basically I had to go through and connect e.g. Channel 84.721 is history channel etc. It was not in the right order so I had to map each channel. Anyhow, send me 10¢ and I’ll send you my old one. Junk!

Their “What’s On” tab doesn’t even work when you put in your zip code/address. If they can’t even figure out how to make a website work how can I trust them to make a device. I think I’ll pass.

Absolute complete and total garbage. Save your money

Not sure about this one, both good and bad reviews. I’m strictly OTA (and streaming). I used a Magnavox DVR (480p) for a few years due to the crap selection for OTA DVRs for the price. Picked up the Channel Master DVR+ for 1/2 price on black Friday and 3 TB Seagate HD for $105 from Amazon. Can’t stream to other devices yet (supposedly in the works for later) but I’d pay full price now that I’ve been using it. The search function works well for keyword searches up to two weeks out. Simple, straight forward, it works in 1080p. F the cable and satellite companies, in a couple more years you’ll be able to get a lot more sports without 'em.

Purchased this same “deal” about 2 weeks ago. I hooked it up, and attempted to stream to my IOS and Android the shows. It skipped, buffered, etc, and was ultimately unwatchable.

This product, from my short usage of it (real bad experience) is simply not a mature enough product to take seriously.

I have a SimpleTv1 that’s much more stable and I’ve switched back to that…

Some very bad reviews in Amazon.com about this Simple.TV device. I was going to order it but definitely won’t now, especially with the Piss Poor customer service the reviewers talked about. It’s a deal breaker for me. Read the reviews for yourself & buyer beware!
