Long live the WOOT-OFF !!!

One for the Smithsonian.

what the? 9-pin serial?

it’s a pretty nifty novely, but I don’t have an IR port or a 9-pin serial port on my laptop. DELL E1705…btw

do i really need it ? … no.

am i gonna buy it ? … yes.

thermal !

curly fax pages that will take you back to 1987!

Thank you sir, May I have another?

I can’t believe some people actually bought this

It’s an odd size thermal paper printer. How on earth are you going to get paper for it

Maybe it’s the next woot [:p]

Sure, infrared makes it sound cool, but unless you work at the car rental return, there is no need for one of this.

Oh well, at least it was cheap

I bought one. Sure hope it’ll plug in to the joystick port on my Commodore 64.

p.s. Paper sheets and rolls are available on Amazon. I’m going to write a long novel, print it on one continuous sheet, roll it up tightly, and stick it. That way I avoid getting yet another rejection letter.

I don’t know what I was thinking… got caught up in WOOTness… bought this as my first ever woot. Good grief.

Has anypone gotten their printer(s) yet? I’m eagerly sewing ludicrously large pockets on my pants, and it appears that my printer is stuck either in Texas or California. I’ve got two tracking numbers to choose from. And I’m in Kansas.

I got mine on friday, 6-16. The info on the blog is a little misleading. It says that it works with Pocket pc pdas, which is somewhat true.

The disk that comes with the printer has drivers for various flavors of windows, the palm print driver, but none for pocketpc. A google search reveals that the SiPix no longer supports these printers. The links to SiPix.com and sipixdigital.com for drivers do not exist anymore. Fortunately, a google search brought me to some forums that have shed some light into the situation.
From what I read (do your own research) you need to first install the trial version of printpocketce (PrintPocketCE - Printing Pocket Word documents)
Then install the sipix driver http://web.archive.org/web/20041028074609/http://www.sipixdigital.com/support/PocketPrinterA6/a6ce.exe (courtesy of archive.org)

Now, I haven’t actually done this yet, but when I do, I will update here.

I had some trouble getting mine to print from the COM port, until I found this:

TomL_12953

I have no trouble printing to the A6 from a serial port. In your port properties,

make sure you have Bits per second = 115000, Data bits=8, Parity=None,
Stop bits=2 and Flow control=Hardware. That Flow control setting is the
most critical.

Mine now prints fine; I just need Woot to offer High Power Reading Glasses so I can read what it prints!

is there anyone who has gotten this thing to print using infrared with xp? The win2k drivers don’t seem to work for me, but I see plenty of broken links to fabled actual xp printer drivers.

This is about as easy as getting a bag o crap.

I sure could use one good driver.

I’ve ordered one and despite almost immeadiately regretting it, I am pleased now that I have received it. I connected it to my XP machine via serial cable and it works nicely. just be sure to change the com port settings as specified in the manual.

Does anyone know if this could be used with a serial to usb connector?

I found this link for cheap thermal paper. It is thinner than the free roll and thus should be easier to tear off cleanly.

I believe it is the 4 1/8 inch wide size

Printing just fine from IR port with XP. Love it! Great for drafts of stuff (1-3 page documents, mostly) that go to the big expensive color printer later.

I installed the printer driver from the disk that came with the printer… use Add Printer… IR Port… Have Disk… Browse to Windows Folder on CD (actually, I tried both the Windows and the Windows2000 folders… can’t actually remember which one worked… one did and one didn’t). Works great. Driver is called SiPix Pocket Printer A6
