How did this appear without any warning and then sell out within like an hour?
Well, the post tracking stuff suggests only five or six people visited the opportunity, so I suspect they only had five of (whatever) available… life is too short for the unexpected obsessions to circulate very far…
By the sale percentages, it looks like they had at least 50-100 copies available.
I keep track of games on woot and have the video game sale event page open, and yesterday this thing literally came out of nowhere and sold out dozens of copies within an hour. I posted about it just now but I’ve known about it for the past day.
I’m guessing it was posted somewhere on some private deal-hunting group. What’s really weird is that it’s not some ridiculous deal and it’s not particularly a collector item.
Wario64 posted it on Twitter along with some other video game deals, and they have over 1 million followers. If 1% of their followers see the post and then 1% of them buy the game, then it sells out if woot had 100 copies.
Yeah that makes sense. Very selective hype for a specific product on a page with many relatively good deals usually means it’s been linked somewhere/by someone popular.
I wish woot had price and product alert features. Like I could set up a watch tag for “Nintendo” and get an app alert if new products pop up with that key word present, and when prices drop on existing products.
wink wink @ThunderThighs
we’ll get to that right after we get to search.
