Whoever put those marketing pics together did a good job. I’ve got the gray sheep nearly in my cart and I already have dryer balls.
It’s the penguins for me… I just like the idea of @Froodyfrog bouncing around in my dryer
We did read the description, but we rather hear from fellow Wooters.
Do these really work better than fabric softener?
How long do these last?
I don’t know about that specifically… but when I wash my down coats or sleeping bags, I don’t use fabric softener… but I do use these (or something similar) cause they fluff the down up nice and evenly.
Edit: I’ve also used new tennis balls and they do the same thing. I think we’ve had the same dryer balls for like 5 years at least. Still seem to work fine.
Edit 2: @Froodyfrog
Thanks for the fantastic reply!
We were gifted some wool dryer balls before the pandemic was at its peak, but we never got to try it because we discovered one of the veterans in the cancer unit had a reaction every time his family brought him clean clothes from home. So we gave the family some Dreft and the wool balls to try, and it seemed to work. No rash the next time he put on some clean clothes from home.
We don’t know how well the wool balls worked or for how long because one day when we came to the VA he was gone. We hope he went home in remission and happy.
Maybe we will give the tennis balls a go.
Thanks for the tips!
They’re cheap, and they seem to be fine for me… I have eczema, and I’ve never had any issues with them. I know we’ve had wool dryer balls in the past and they didn’t cause any flare-ups either. I do hate static though… just a weird skin thing with me probably, but it seems like the wool balls & tennis balls have been fine. We always use the Penn tennis balls… not sure if that matters, but that’s what we have right now.
I bought these the last time they were on sale. I like them better than tennis balls because they don’t seem to be as noisy but still fluff everything.
I see all the softness claims on here and while I don’t doubt that - I am concerned that no one has mentioned anything about static, which to me is more important than softness (my textile choices are gonna be soft no matter what)

To avoid static, I make sure to never overdry my laundry. Drying on lower heat helps a lot, even if I need to set the timer higher. It lowers the static and also lowers energy bill.
Once a garment catches static, a little humid helps. Bathroom during the shower, or a few puffs of clothes steemer should do the trick.
We are guilty of not taking out the laundry before it gets staticky.
We have used the timer option and the temperature settings, but it is not an exact science.
We have also filled a little spray bottle with some alcohol and water, and we spritz the clothes to help with the static issues.
We were a little concern about any scent the tennis balls might impart to the contents in the dryer, but it has not been mentioned…so it probably is not an issue.
How many Penn tennis balls should we get?
My wife just gets the 3 pack tubes… I just checked upstairs and that’s what we have. I hope it works for you as well as it works for me…
There’s also plastic ones
Clothes dry faster and helps with wrinkles.
It says they last over 1000 loads
