Why does woot resell/relist these ripoffs from unscrupulous Amazon sellers?

Most of the reviews note they were duped into buying one 16oz bottle instead of a six pack or 12 pack.

While $3 is cheaper than what the Amazon buyers got hustled for, it’s still an insane price.

Furthermore, why is woot even offering products with 2.5 stars?

  1. Amazon breaking apart multi-packs when they shouldn’t or NOT breaking apart a case when they should has been an ongoing issue. I’ve experienced both before.

  2. Context of the reviews. I’ve seen 1 star reviews because it arrived a day late or “I bought the wrong thing and it didn’t work.” For a product with few reviews, that could really wreck the numbers.

  3. On the topic of reviews, I’ve read elsewhere that only about 1 in 100 buyers would bother to review. Those with negative experiences more apt to; those with positive experiences, less likely to.

  4. There’s an adage in the tech industry that “there are no bad products, only bad prices.” I feel that’s applicable to pretty much every product. If one doesn’t like the price, DON’T BUY IT!

(Granted, sometimes that price would be have to be below $0, but it’s still a price!)

Yeah…

But then to counteract the people who generally only post bad reviews are the positive review mills with fake or “subsidized” reviews.

I find that if a product has less than three stars, it generally deserves it.

As for Amazon breaking up multi packs, sure it happens. But, and I know this is anecdotal, I’ve only had Amazon breaking up a multi pack when ordering through woot. Never had it happen direct from mothership.

And sure, it’s fine to say, don’t buy it if you don’t like the price. But woot is a deal site (or used to be/supposed to be) and calling out an objectively high price that is outside the normal range I believe to be a reasonable use of the forum.

It is – provided one brings evidence! As a non-staffer, I’m not speaking on Woot’s behalf, but for all my years here:

  • “This is $___ at _____.” Acceptable and appreciated. If Woot can, they might even meet or beat that price.
  • eBay is fine as a comparable, but they aren’t regular retail. Can’t price match, but it’s fine to point out that one can get a better deal there.
  • Prebuilt computer is “too expensive?” Prove it! Post that pcpartpicker.com build list.
  • Likewise with any Wooter proclaiming “I can DIY this for less.” Prove it!

As for the other points:

  • Review mills: Amazon has cracked down on them, at least. 100% ridded of, no; they still exist, but seemingly they’re targeting other platforms nowadays. Even within Amazon’s own Vine program, there’s active monitoring, along with folks on r/amazonvine who have no qualms shaming and/or flagging reviews that don’t follow the rules. Also since Viners have to pay income tax on the product’s value, those products aren’t truly free. There’s still a cost to them.

  • As I’ve said, I’ve had both experiences before with multi-packs from the mothership. Also issues with incorrect items being fulfilled.

  • Amazon Haul has a 50 item limit for its cart. It was NOT possible to buy 2500 things from their 1 cent sale last week to skip paying for shipping.

Wow. That was a lot. You clearly have waaaaay more time on your hands than I do.

I guess all I can say is, $2.91 is waaaay too much for a 16oz bottle of Snapple.

Not a bad product, but as you alluded in your tech world quote, “a bad price.”

Nah. I ended up with “only” 38 of the 1-cent items. Most were programmed correctly with the “limit 1”.

This is one of the items arriving today.

Congrats on the forbidden cheetos.

Sounds like you’re not ordering enough from the mothership because I’ve had lots of packages arrive that were not the multipacks advertised.

You think some Cybertruck owners would notice if I gift them a pair on the hitch, like so?

The ones I bought are even sized appropriately!

Also since is drifting more and more off topic now … penguin marinade?

Unfortunately, I think I order TOO much from Amazon. Maybe just not in multi pack form. OR perhaps the warehouses around me are more conscientious?
