If you’re outside in the sun already, then where’s the harm. I’ll grant the “solar charging” as a bit of a gimmick, but when you have little access to power (on the move, in the woods, etc.) it’s a handy thing. Plus, it’s a micro-usb charger, so one doesn’t have to have expensive, oddball (the correct size to fit the case) lightning cables.
