Excellent tablet and price. It’s dropped in price twice since we purchased Excellent deal for a sweet tablet. We own 1.

Nice tablet, though I’m concerned about the excess condensation it seems to accumulate. Is that a feature?

Is this tablet unlocked?

Sigh. I’m still waiting for the Xperia Z2 to become widely available. This is a great tablet, but will seem like very outdated tech when it does.

What does that even mean? It’s not a cell phone with carrier service.

I bought this the last time it was on sale.

I’ve owned several iPads and have never been attracted to other tablets. Here’s what I like about this one:

  • light as a feather
  • extremely thin
  • the camera generates extremely good pictures (good contrast and color)
  • water resistant / “waterproof” to a defined depth and time (totally submerged) indefinitely being splashed etc.

In order to make it watertight all the slots come with their own seal (attached covers) which must be removed/replaced when used. To that end to avoid seating/re-seating the recharger plug, i bought a stand for this that ‘magically’ charges this just by putting it on it. It’s about $60 but well worth it. the stand acts as an angled cradle. just make sure to buy the right one (not the one for the older xperia “S” which might be cheaper). With this I just drop the tablet and it recharges when it has to.

Battery life so far is outstanding. (it has a number of battery saving algos).

Things I don’t like?
The Google Play store lacks compared to the Apple store. By that I mean I’ve experienced quite a few apps that stop working suddenly (a rare experience with apple store apps) . But this is NOT a problem with this pad, it’s with the platform.

Since it doesn’t have cell carrier capability (wifi only), on the road when I can’t find wifi, I use my iPhone as wifi access point that the Xperia connects to.
At home I simply use wifi.

After you turn it on, it will eventually want to update itself to the latest OS version. Great improvement.

All in all I love my Xperia.
It is light, sleek, waterproof, sharp looking and works very well.

He is asking because in the past Sony has locked up their tablets so you can’t put on your own version of android only the one Sony allows you to use. At least that is the way their first gen tablets worked once you made the mistake installing a Sony system update the tablet was locked up tighter than an Archos.

I have no idea if this one is locked up, but I would honestly be surprised if it wasn’t.

You hit the nail on the head. I can only attest to all of your points as an owner.

Not sure if I should jump on this or wait for the Nexus8/9 or a black friday deal in a couple months. It’s definitely a worth upgrade over my Toshiba Excite AT305 though. What do you guys think?

It must be either unlocked, or unlockable.

It is supported by the cyanogenmod project

Mine just arrived today with some kind of dust bunny BEHIND the front glass. I’m fairly easy going but this thing is large enough to appear to be the period at the end of a sentence. It covers a whole cluster of pixels.

Example - just like this

.

Anybody else see anything like this? I’m not okay with it.

Contacting customer service.

I hope that doesn’t happen to me (again). I bought a xperia S tablet with a defective (liquid damaged) screen last year and sony would not honor the warranty, and woot wouldn’t halp me out either because it was “past 21 days”. ended up contacting the BBB to get Sony to refund my money.
