I just got the Sphere 2.0 on ebay 2 weeks ago… honestly the best “toy” I’ve bought in years. I bought it so the kids could use the ipad and learn to program it to do things, but even the normal app to manually drive it around is just so well done. The entire concept of how open it is and how you can submit your own programs to it to do things like jump or dance is ingenious. Definitely recommend for kids of all ages.

Sorry-- unless it has the functionality to open the fridge door and retrieve a beer without spilling it (or drinking it), it ain’t a real robot in my book.

Vintner keeps thinking this would be a wonderful way to occupy the dog and get her wound up and thus irritate the wife. Hmmm. A two fer toy.

Bought one of these the last time they were up on Woot. Delivered looking totally used, not what I would call “Factory Refurbished”. Turned out unit was totally dead. Woot gave total refund, but very disappointed.

I had the EXACT same problem. Mine was DOA. I contacted Woot and they offered to give me $10 refund so I could have it “repaired locally”. I’m pretty sure these are returns from a school STEM program. If you watch the video in the promo they show these devices falling on the floor and dropped off the tables. Mine came with a torn instruction book, tangled power cord and a hazy scratched up plastic globe. Like it was returned to a warehouse and then direct to my door.

Save your money and buy direct from the company NEW. I’m sure with the price tag we’d make sure it wasn’t abused like that video showed.

I returned mine for a full refund. Now I’m reconsidering ALL my future purchases on Woot more carefully.

I bought two Sphero 2.0 in a two for Tuesday a few years ago, and gave one to a dog trainer friend as an xmas gift. She uses it constantly to train dogs do do commands while distracted (what can be more distracting than a ball rolling around on its own?)

My 10 lb dog has mastered catching and stopping the ball by pinning it to the ground with her jaw, so its not as much fun for the two of us to play with now. I bought the Ollie, which is 3x larger and much more intimidating to her as a new toy a few weeks ago, she’s just gotten to the point where she doesn’t go hide under the bed after 5 min of play

So… is this why “Refurbished”?

And what… precisely… does refurbished mean in this context? New firmware? Or just the burnt entrails of the last victim cleaned off?

We don’t have that information as it will vary from unit to unit.

Here’s our definition of factory reconditioned:

A “factory reconditioned” item was returned, inspected, and restored to fully working condition by the original manufacturer or a certified partner. And the original manufacturer stands behind it with a warranty. It’s as close to new as you can get without technically being “new”.
