Oh see that makes sense. I thought these would screw up your knives but wood makes sense. If you always cut 12-15 degrees from horizontal your knives will stay sharp.

So no dent upon metal to metal action despite this is the flat plane that takes a hit from a vertical plane of equal if not harden metal? Is this depleted uranium? Are these cut up cyber truck bodies?

At this price are they really a steel(steal)?

What to use :thinking:f-float:

  • Wood and bamboo harbor bacteria
  • Glass and steel roll edges
  • Plastic chips and winds up deposited in ones brain (ave = teaspoon past age 60)
  • Titanium maybe softer than steel but real is expensive and some are mainly steel

There are a few types of wood that are naturally antibiotic - hard maple is one of those, which is why it’s so popular for cutting boards.

Look up a YouTube video by Prudent Reviews. It’s the latest one. These things are horrible for your knives and he has the data to prove it.

You should use ones made of Richlite. They are approved by the NSF and are easy to sanitize.

Thank you. Richlight is apparently made of paper infused “thermosetting phenolic resin” - “formed from the reaction of phenol and formaldehyde.”

Hopefully good quality control with removal of unused reagents. Because both base materials used in manufacture are exceedingly toxic. Phenol is corrosive. We cleaned anatomy and histology lab table tops with the stuff. One time my glove ripped and I had a chemical burn from minimal duration contact. Formaldehyde is considered by many to be a carcinogen.

Not a chef, I think I will cut on my Corelle and a small thin titanium board I received. Is it real titanium? I have my doubts but it is stated so. It is easy to clean.

Interesting though it is not the wood itself that is the problem. It is over time the tiny surface cuts and grooves into the wood with accumulation of tiny amounts of debris. The latter is what can harbor bacteria and fungi.

Maple is better with tannins (the active chemical) that appears to help inhibit some growth. But I still would cook food cut on the surface.

That said the acidity of the human gut probably can deal with trace amounts of bacteria.

I find it odd you reject things proven to be safe, yet you buy an unknown metal from an anonymous Chinese supplier.

It is based on a knowledge of biochemistry and toxicity taken at same graduate school class as Biochem PhDs during medical school training. What you refer to is impregnated paper. No thank you.

You are free to use what you want. I choose not to for specific reasons stated.

Addendum:
This is what Richlite says are their recommended uses on its website. Counter tops are not the same as use for direct food prep in degree of contact.

What are your thoughts on wiping a wooden board with Orange Oil (D-Limonene) to keep it nice and clean?

@powerslave12r There is “food grade” and industrial strength. I would not want to ingest either from what I found / read. I would not even handle industrial grade unless outside or if bottle opened in a fume hood.
