Let’s learn all about the warranty

Can’t believe I ordered this same thing from AAA Member Deals for $139.99 a couple of weeks ago, and it came from Woot.
Wasn’t much of a deal was it if Woot is selling it for $99.99? (That’s $40.00 less, gads!!!)
I’m tempted to contact their support and return it and then buy this one.

Correction to the specs…
14f is -10c not 10c as stated

[MOD: Thanks! I’ll ask them to double check that spec line.]

This. Is. A. Deal.

In for one …

Anyone know if it will work with Mac for monitoring?

I assume that the cameras are hard wired via the 60’ RCA cords. Could you output from the recorder to watch real time on a monitor? Thanks

I have 2 questions around this security system:

  1. Are the cameras wireless or are they hardwired?

  2. Is there any sort of notification functionality when motion is detected?

I recently bought a FOSCAM and I love it–looking to add a few more cameras. My FOSCAM will send me an email/text when motion is detected along with a picture of what it detected. Wondering if these have the same capabilities…

I bought this and DO NOT like them. The night vision on the one I have set up in my backyard is WORTHLESS. I have NEVER been able to get the remote viewing to work, as you need to be a network engineer to do so.

@Nikk: the cameras are not wireless.

@Miltherch: I don’t see why not. if you can view on a smartphone, why not on a monitor?

However, this brings up another question: Can I add wireless cameras to this? I’d love to put a camera outside but I rent and have no way to run wires outside. (except in summer thru the window w/ the AC)

I would love the notifictaion for activity if you have the motion detection on. Hopefully this has this.

I shall investigate and report back! LOL

Does anyone know if this system is visable in real time via a web browser from a computer?

This isnt that great of a deal. The cameras are only 400 line. On Tiger you can get a 4ch unit with 2 600 line cameras for $80, without a hard drive. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8754116 But 500Gig wont get you much recording time if you add cameras, and you can get a 500G for $52. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7756807&CatId=8

mpilihp, there is also a bundle option of those 2. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8915831&csid=_22

Yup I just think 500G isnt enough if you go to 4 cameras… Better to buy a seperate 1+Tb drive.

Well, I missed this one too! :-/ Oh well.

Just plugged everything in from the Woot I scored.
Holy cow!
Awesome instructions.
Plug it all in and instant video surveillance goodness. Excellent GUI. Even includes a USB mouse and IR remote control.
I was expecting bare bones.
Should have bought two.

Got my order of two, and hooked one up to try it out.

  • Functionality is actually pretty good, esp for the price.
  • Cameras are kind of low res but image quality is good and night vision isn’t too bad either
  • Contains everything you need, and then some

  • Took a bit to figure out which of the dozen or so Android apps I needed to download for this particular model. I ended up using “SwannView”.
  • Web view interface is IE or Safari only. What is this, 2005? I run linux, so neither is an option.
  • A bit of research (http://console-cowboys.blogspot.com/2013/01/swann-song-dvr-insecurity.html) shows that these things may have major security issues, and I’m disinclined to have mine internet-facing.
