The current song

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won’t understand

“Don’t accept that what’s happening
Is just a case of others’ suffering
Or you’ll find that you’re joining in
The turning away”

It’s a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it’s shroud
Over all we have known

Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we’re all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord

Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary

No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare

Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away?

Tin Omen

every truncheon hit
misguided the peoples army
divided united stance
amped out war dance
what a ride
inner thought of non violent rebellion
outside dare to die stand and fight
show faith
return all the weapons
government says use them
right fixed action
set in motion
doubting amnesia potion what to hide
red carpet ride
guessing right
the jokes on dark corner
the square
you bath once a week
distorted the viewpoint
seldom seen
wayback in 68
ohio kent state
was nothing so great
have or have not
forcing the point
shot in the back
take it back down
trod soldier away
flower power within
kill me kill this
way of life and be known
one by one they’ll be coming down
altogether
sister machine gun
automatic high
what a ride
what a trip
tripped over the candlestick
tanks arrive
fire wall
got to keep the camera alive
tell the world whats going on here
warning shots are fired at the stomach
chest wound
coed falls
amped out amped out
changing guns for brooms
the guards change to clean up crews
way back in 68
every thing was so great
no way
wrong date
keep up the trade
balanced charade
close circuit truth
used to remove
keep the camera alive

Where’s the Groundhog?

I was walking in the park the other day
It was so cold, I wished it was May
I heard nothing but the wind
I thought the animals were hibernatin’

In the snow, I saw some tracks here
From their shapes they were made by a deer
A hollow log lay on the ground
And in its hole a skunk can be found

I saw all kinds of tracks everywhere
Those of skunks and squirrels, and I got to stare
At a raccoon sleeping up in a tree
But it’s a groundhog I want to see

I used the trashcan, like we all should
Inside a ‘possum was eating what he could
I got this thought in my head
Why wasn’t he just playin’ dead?

I guess most mammals don’t hibernate
Only a few have to, or meet their fate
Winter can be both a friend and a foe
But where’s the groundhog?
I want to know

It’s hibernating underground
‘Cause for groundhog there’s no food to be found
It’s hibernating underground
‘Cause for groundhog there’s no food to be found

Instrumental

It’s hibernating underground
Its breathing has slowed way down
It’s hibernating underground
Its heart hardly makes a sound (repeat)

No food to be found whoa
No food to be found whoa

And I’ve lived a dozen lifetimes in twenty-some-odd years
Got no use for trouble, got no use for tears
Can’t you see it’s killing me, I’m old before my time
I won’t let you double the pain of a troubled life

I’ve had my share of sorrow, more than you could know
Save your lies and alibis, I’ve heard that tune before
Can’t you see it’s killing me, I’m old before my time
I won’t let you double the pain of a troubled life

You’re out all night, asleep all day, so pack it up and leave
I’ve got no use for trouble, trouble’s using me
Don’t you see my love won’t be forever deaf and blind
I won’t let you double the pain of a troubled life

I’ve had my share of sorrow, more than you could know
Save your lies and alibis, I’ve heard that tune before
Can’t you see it’s killing me, I’m old before my time
I won’t let you double the pain of a troubled life

I’ve had my share of sorrow, more than you could know
Save your lies and alibis, I’ve heard that tune before
Can’t you see it’s killing me, I’m old before my time
I won’t let you double the pain of a troubled life

Can’t you see that love can’t be forever deaf and blind?

Hey there, how are 'ya?
It’s been a long time
Seems like we’ve come a long way
My, but we learn so slow
And heroes, they come and they go
And leave us behind as if
We’re supposed to know why

Why do we give up our hearts to the past?
And why must we grow up so fast?

And all you wishing well fools with your fortunes
Someone should send you a rose
With love from a friend,
It’s nice to hear from you again
And the storybook comes to a close
Gone are the ribbons and bows
Things to remember, places to go
Pretty maids all in a row

Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo

Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo

All day I’ve faced a barren waste
Without the taste of water, cool water
Old Dan and I with throats burned dry
And souls that cry for water
Cool, clear, water

The nights are cool and I’m a fool
Each star’s a pool of water
Cool water
And with the dawn I’ll wake and yawn
And carry on to water
Cool, clear, water

Keep a-movin, Dan, dontcha listen to him, Dan
He’s a devil, not a man
And he spreads the burning sand with water
Dan, can ya see that big, green tree?
Where the water’s runnin’ free
And it’s waiting there for you and me? Water
Cool, clear, water

The shadows sway and seem to say
Tonight we pray, for water
Cool water

And way up there, He’ll hear our prayer
And show us where there’s water
Cool, clear, water

Keep a-movin, Dan, dontcha listen to him, Dan
He’s a devil, not a man
And he spreads the burning sand with water
Dan, can ya see that big, green tree?
Where the water’s runnin’ free
And it’s waitin’ there for you and me?

Cool, clear, water
Cool, clear, water

A bunch of the boys were whoopin’ it up
At the Malamute Café
And the ragtime kid at the music box
Was a jazzin’ a tune that was gay
And back of the bar in a poker game
Sat a man that everyone knew
He was grim and cold, he was bad and bold
He was dangerous Dan McGrew

And while dangerous Dan was a-playin’ his hand
And keeping his mind on his game
You could see standing by with a gleam in her eye
And her hair just as red as a flame
A gal who was tall, with a face like a doll
And her fingernails painted blue
Oh, a gal who was tall, with a face like a doll
The lady that’s known as Lou

Then out of the night which was fifty below
And into the din and the glare
A man staggered in who was haggard and thin
And his face was filled with despair
Now he looked all around until he had found
The lady that’s known as Lou
And then the stranger turned
And his eyes they burned
On dangerous Dan McGrew

Then suddenly wham! All the lights went out
And a voice cried “Die, you must!”
And then a woman screamed and a shot rang out
And somebody bit the dust
And then the lights flashed on
And the north-west mounted police
Came a-crashin’ through
They drew their guns and they said
“Which one is dangerous Dan McGrew?”

And then somebody said “well hi there!”
And skipped across the floor
A-one, two, skip, hand on hip
Right out through the open door
Now was it the stranger a-takin’ his leave?
Or the lady that’s known as Lou?
It was nobody else in this whole wide world
But dangerous Dan McGrew

Three, four…
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
What are they feeding you?
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
It’s not your fault
They won’t take you to the vet
You’re obviously not their favorite pet
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
It’s not your fault
You may not be a bed of roses
You’re not friend to those with noses
I’ll miss you before we’re done
Or the world will smell as one
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
What are they feeding you?
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat
It’s not your fault
(Phoebe) Oh are we done?
One, two, what’s that smell?
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
What are they feeding you?
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat
You’re getting fat
I think that I’m gonna be sick
It’s your ears, and nose and pick
Part of it, tempt me
One, two, what’s that smell?
All the dogs in the neighborhood
Are saying this for your own good
What, you’re fat, so you can’t run
No fun, I bet, No fun
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
Porno makes you eat like that
I saw you in the shopping mall
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
It’s not your fault,
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
It’s not your fault
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,
It’s not your fault
We know what was in your food
They say it might affect your mood
You smell like something dead (3x)
One, two, what’s that smell?
(Phoebe)Yeah, that’s not the song

I remember to this day, the bright red Georgia clay
How it stuck to the tires after the summer rain
Will power made that old car go, a woman’s mind told me that it’s so
Oh, how I wish we were back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travellin’ and livin’ off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love bein’ a free man

I can still recall the wheat fields of St. Paul
And the mornin’ we got caught robbin’ from an old hen
Old Mac Donald made us work, but then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas and back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travellin’ and livin’ off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love bein’ a free man

I’ll never forget that day we motored stately into big L.A.
The lights of the city put settlin’ down in my brain
Though it’s only been a month or so, that old car’s buggin’ us to go
You gotta get away and get back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named Boo
Travellin’ and livin’ off the land
Me and you and a dog named Boo
How I love bein’ a free man

Goats are clever, Goats are wise
They’ve got four legs, they’ve got two eyes
Goats eat anything from fillet steak to oats
They’re not as fussy as ferrets or stoats

They can climb, climb high mountains
They don’t need crampons or ropes
They’re worthy and sturdy
better built than antelopes

Goats are clever, goats are smart
They don’t drink cyder and they never fart
Goats wear coats thick and hairy
They don’t wear bras, they’re not fairies

They can swim, swim wide rivers
They can climb the highest trees
They wear bells around their necks
oooooooooooooohhh… Jealous me.

Goats are clever, goats think big
They’re not pooftas’, they don’t wear wigs
They’re more fierce and nasty than any Fegg
They build big nests & fill them with turds

Goats, goats, they’re supreme
They live in the wind and rain
How I’d love to be a goat
If I were born again

Bravo, dave!!!

The Moody Blues
Why do we never get an answer
When we’re knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war?
'Cause when we stop and look around us
There is nothing that we need
In a world of persecution that is burning in its greed
Why do we never get an answer
When we’re knocking at the door
Because the truth is hard to swallow
That’s what the war of love is for
It’s not the way that you say it
When you do those things to me
It’s more the way that you mean it
When you tell me what will be
And when you stop and think about it
You won’t believe it’s true
That all the love you’ve been giving
Has all been meant for you
I’m looking for someone to change my life
I’m looking for a miracle in my life
And if you could see what it’s done to me
To lose the love I knew
Could safely lead me through
Between the silence of the mountains
And the crashing of the sea
There lies a land I once lived in
And she’s waiting there for me
But in the Grey of the morning
My mind becomes confused
Between the dead and the sleeping
And the road that I must choose
I’m looking for someone to change my life
I’m looking for a miracle in my life
And if you could see what it’s done to me
To lose the love I knew
Could safely lead me to
The land that I once knew
To learn as we grow old
The secrets of our soul
It’s not the way that you say it when you do those things to me
It’s more the way you really mean it when you tell me what will be
Why do we never get an answer
When we’re knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war
'Cause when we stop and look around us
There is nothing that we need
In a world of persecution that is burning in its greed
Why do we never get an answer
When we’re knocking at the door
Songwriters: Justin Hayward

You went away and left me long time ago
And now your knocking on my door
I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

I begged you not to go but you said goodbye
And now your telling me all your lies
I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

You better get back to your used to be
‘Cause your kind of love ain’t good for me
I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

I told you way back in ‘52
That I would never go with you
I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been,…Yeah

lol…

“Knock Three Times”

Hey girl, whatcha doin’ down there?
Dancin’ alone every night while I live right above you
I can hear your music playin’, I can feel your body swayin’
One floor below me, you don’t even know me, I love you

Oh my darlin’
Knock three times on the ceilin’ if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Oh, my sweetness means you’ll meet me in the hallway
Twice on the pipe means you ain’t gonna show

If you look out your window tonight
Pull in the string with the note attached to my heart
Read how many times I saw and how in my silence I adore you
Only in my dreams the wall between us was apart

Oh my darlin’
Knock three times on the ceilin’ if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Oh, my sweetness means you’ll meet me in the hallway
Twice on the pipe means you ain’t gonna show

Oh, I can hear the music playin’
I can feel your body swayin’
One floor below me, you don’t even know me, I love you

Oh my darlin’
Knock three times on the ceilin’ if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
(I love you, I love you, I love you)
Oh, my sweetness means you’ll meet me in the hallway
Twice on the pipe means you ain’t gonna show

Oh my darlin’
Knock three times on the ceilin’ if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
(I love you, I love you, I love you)
Oh, my sweetness means you’ll meet me in the hallway
Twice on the pipe means you ain’t gonna show

Mama, take this badge from me
I can’t use it anymore
It’s getting dark, too dark to see
Feels like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door

Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door

Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can’t shoot them anymore
That cold black cloud is comin’ down
Feels like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door

Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on heaven’s door

And now I know
Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say
I thought I knew
But now I know that rose trees never grow
In New York City
Until you’ve seen this trash can dream come true
You stand at the edge while people run you through
And I thank the Lord
There’s people out there like you
I thank the Lord there’s people out there like you
While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Turn around and say good morning to the night
For unless they see the sky
But they can’t and that is why
They know not if it’s dark outside or light
This Broadway’s got
It’s got a lot of songs to sing
If I knew the tunes I might join in
I’ll go my way alone
Grow my own, my own seeds shall be sown, in New York City
Subway’s no way for a good man to go down
Rich man can ride and the hobo he can drown
And I thank the Lord for the people I have found
I thank the Lord for the people I have found
While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Turn around and say good morning to the night
For unless they see the sky
But they can’t and that is why
They know not if it’s dark outside or light
And now I know
Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say
I thought I knew
But now I know that rose trees never grow
In New York City
Subway’s no way for a good man to go down
Rich man can ride and the hobo he can drown
And I thank the Lord for the people I have found
I thank the Lord for the people I have found
While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Turn around and say good morning to the night
For unless they see the sky
But they can’t and that is why
They know not if it’s dark outside or light
They know not if it’s dark outside or light

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I’m strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We’ll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

If I’m laden at all
I’m laden with sadness
That everyone’s heart
Isn’t filled with the gladness
Of love for one another

It’s a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we’re on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn’t weigh me down at all
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

He’s my brother
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother…

Sometimes I can’t move my feet it seems
As if I’m stuck in the ground somehow like a tree
As if I can’t even breathe
And my screams come whispering out
As if nobody can even see me
Like a ghost
I can’t see myself sometimes

Then again if I were a king
If I had everything
If I had you
And I could give you your dreams
If I were giant size
On top of it all
Tell me what in the world would I sing for
If I had it

Sometimes I feel lost
As I pull you out like strings of memories
Wish I could weave them into you
And I could figure the whole damn puzzle out

But then again if I were a king
If I had everything
If I had you
And I could give you your dreams
If I were giant size
On top of it all
Tell me then what I would sing for
If I had it all

Oh
I could take anything
If I had no greed to big
Just poison tainting the green

Remembering time
Much younger than me now
When my breath was light
When the world raised me kind
Here the mother comforts child
Every moment was waking up
But now I have grown tired

If I had it all
I’d fuck it up

If I were a king
If I had everything
If I had you
And I could give you your dreams
If I were giant size
On top of it all
Tell me what in the world would I sing for

If I were a king
If I had everything
Piece by piece
If had you
If I could give you your dreams
If I were giant size
On top of it all
Then why in the world would I sing
If I had it all

TV dinners there’s nothin’ else to eat
TV dinners they really can’t be beat
I like 'em frozen but you understand
I throw 'em in and wave 'em and I’m a brand new man oh yeah!

TV dinners they’re goin’ to my head
TV dinners my skin is turnin’ red
Twenty year old turkey in a thirty year old tin
I can’t wait until tomorrow… and thaw one out again oh yeah!

TV dinners I’m feelin’ kinda rough
TV dinners this one’s kinda tough
I like the enchiladas and the teriaki too
I even like the chicken if… the sauce is not too blue.

And they’re mine, all mine, oh yeah
and they sure are fine.
Gotta have ‘em
gimme somethin’ now.

Step one, you say we need to talk
He walks, you say sit down, it’s just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left, and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all, you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you’ve told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And I pray to God he hears you
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you’ve followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he’ll say he’s just not the same
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life
