Does this work with Verizon FIOS??

Awww! That looks like my kitty.

I DO NOT recommend this Tivo unit.

You have to purchase/rent cable cards from your cable company (2 for duel record) . My wife got this for me for christmas, and I returned it.

Absolutly dumb to pay for the device (TIVO UNIT), pay for the TIVO SERVICE, Pay for your cable service, and pay for the cable cards to use with the unit.

no thank you tivo.

Not to mention they (TIVO) are running ads now in the tivo screens. fuckers.

I have TiVo and love it. However, if you want to use HD TiVo, you obviously need an HD TV and a different type of dish if you have Direct TV like me. If you sign up for the $5.95 monthly protection plan, they will give you the new dish. HMMMM.

No satellite?

I love my DirecTiVo.

As far as I know you have to pay to use it. Although, usually once a year Tivo offers their coveted ‘Lifetime Subscription’ with the purchase of a new HD Tivo. The last offer was in March, I believe, and it totals about $700 for the whole package.

About $12 or $13 per month But Tivo is by far the best way to dvr of any of the dvr options I know about. (Comcast and ATT)

Hi ANNA!

Last time Woot offered this, MANY, MANY people had to send them to TiVo for a replacement. Mine would lock up after watching TV for a couple minutes. TiVo was very helpful and replaced everyone’s units with working ones. My replacement has been working great for months now.

.but the lifetime thing is only good for the life of your DVRunit, not for the rest of YOUR life.

Other models will work without the TiVo service, but with some compromises.

ARRRGH! I missed this! I bought one of these when it was a full woot and love it so much I want a second one. They didn’t offer them in the last woot-off, and now I missed it in this one. Arrrrgh!

Actually with Tivo I pay the same as I did with the cable company. I paid $17.99 Time Warner each month for the digital cable with HD DVR cable box. Now each month I pay Time Warner <$5 for the two cable cards and pay Tivo $12.99. Now OF COURSE I had the $$ to buy the Tivo unit itself. But I use every feature on it and it was worth that one-time outlay to me. YMMV, but for me, the monthly cost absolutely did not go up, it just got split between Tivo and Time Warner instead of going all to Time Warner.

yes but this one is free and clear. for $200 anywhere else you have to get a year subscription. with this one you can go month to month or replace an existing. i got one a couple months back refurb from Woot and it’s great.

Yes, my parents are using a TiVo HD happily with Verizon FiOS. Verizon will show up and install a CableCARD (one multi-stream card or two regular cards) so the TiVo can decode the encrypted channels you’re entitled to. Works great.

And to comment to the rest of the comments, $179 is a good price. It’s $20 off the regular refurb price TiVo offers, not $20 off the retail. $299 is the retail. And, with Time Warner Cable and others raising their monthly DVR fee to $10 or more, they certainly no longer have a cost advantage over TiVo’s service fees. (Very good deals if you prepay for a year or more.)

Actually, you only need 1 CableCard if you get an MCard (2 stream card), and as far as paying the cable company, most of them will charge something like $1.75 or in te case of Comcast, the first CableCard is free.

And give me a break on whinning on the ads and paying for service. The ads a little link at the bottom with one line of text you can optionally click on, and as far as the service, you can get a cable box for cheaper, but paying for crap like that is dumb.
