I was born in January of 1959, I missed this by one month. Imagine my disappointment.
Not to nerd out on you, but the “meatball” logo was designed in 1959!

I grew up during the “worm” logo era (I was born a year after the switch), then they changed (back to) the meatball in 1992, but I didn’t realize it was a previously-used logo. In the early 2000s I saw a 1960s-period-piece romantic comedy movie of some sort where, if I remember correctly, the ending has the main characters picked up from a rooftop by a NASA helicopter sporting the meatball logo. At first I thought that was an obvious anachronism till I looked up the history of the logo change(s).
