Time to learn all about the processor

CPU Benchmark

This looks like an awesome deal to me… any input/experience with this laptop?

Ordered one and set it up for a friend. It would be a good deal at $100 more. Dumped Winblows first thing and set it up with Ubuntu and it seems lightening fast in what little time I had with it. Very thin and light considering the screen real estate and the DVD burner. Touchpad was a little oversensitive, but that’s adjustable and I’m heavy handed. Transfer was quick from USB3 and I saw no faultering or buffering of videos.

Assume wi-fi, but Bluetooth?

I still can’t stomach the Windows 8/8.1 OS. Looks like this comes with standard 8.1 (not Pro), so no downgrade option to Windows 7, correct?

Wireless: 1x1 802.11b/g/n WLAN
Bluetooth: No

Hope that helps.

According to Microsoft licensing, that is correct.

Will it qualify for free windows 10 upgrade?

Thanks

Yes, Windows 10 will be offered free to all legitimate Windows 8 and 7 installs. Meaning, I assume, that you will need the install key, but I don’t think that has been announced yet.

Windows 10 to launch ‘this summer’ with free upgrades even for pirated copies

I don’t know if I’d risk it, but interesting all the same.

Although I’m not a huge fan of W8, it does have a smaller resource footprint than W7. I just use classic shell (free download) and pretend it’s W7. I never even go to the tile part, I just stick to the desktop.

W8 does not come with mediacenter, so if that might be a stopper for a few people, if they have certain stuff that works with windows mediacenter

Seems like a pretty decent deal for a budget 17 inch laptop. Switch out the HDD for an SSD and get a huge performance boost. Get a USB enclosure for the HDD and use that as an external HDD- I would partition it and keep the OS on one partion as a back-up, then the other partition can be used for storage.

Pretty decent reviews at Amazon:

A bit late with this comment, but Windows10 (yeah, they skipped 9) is going to be free to anyone who has 7 or 8 loaded, and it looks to be better. Personally, everything I buy gets Linux loaded first thing, but that’s just me.
