UE MEGABOOM or BOOM 2 Bluetooth Speaker

Bought one last time and they couldn’t fulfill my order. Not going through that again.

I bought a Megaboom new almost 3 years ago.

I have not noticed a major decrease in how long the battery lasts. It’s still waterproof enough to take in the shower with no problems. Once, I even submerged it in a hot-tub while it was playing music, and it came back out without a problem.

Audio quality won’t knock your socks off with what’s available now-a-days, but it’s still quite good for the size.

Bought it for 300, and never had cause to regret it. At this price I think it’s a no-brainer. Best Bluetooth speaker I’ve ever had, or seen.

I have 2 UE Boom 2 speakers (owned 1 gen 1). They are pretty great. The battery seems to last forever when not at max volume. When my OEM headunit went out on my car I used one of them in my car while waiting for the new unit to come in. Hooking 2 of them up together is pretty easy and is nice for stereo sound. The USB connection is recessed quite a bit. I have had a couple of cables where the connector was too wide. I think the 1st gen was easier. The 2nd gen probably does better with water for that reason though.

Not a bad price, but not a great price. Since the Boom 2 came out 3.5 years ago you could be getting one that old or one much newer. In the past 6 weeks Dell and Amazon have sold these new for $59/$75.

I’ve owned 2 UE Boom2’s and they are the best. One i got back in the day for $300 and never regretted it. Great sound and great battery life. I bought a 2nd boom so i could sync them up. Never really tested the water resistance, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

I also ended up getting a wonderboom for beach/snowboarding trips.

I bought the Megaboom(the bigger one) in June for my beach chair and shore porch use…no worries about getting a little sideways at night and leaving it out in a rainstorm…no worries about my TB chair getting hit by a wave anymore…Sound is great…battery to date is flawless.

I have the UE waterproof speaker, the new Waterproof Kindle and my Samsung phone is waterproof…So happy that I know longer have to worry about this at the beach or by the pool.

Throw in my AO soft cooler bag which keeps the beverages ice cold all day(at a fraction of Yeti price) and ice still in the bag when I wake up in the morning!

Is this the one that connects to Amazon Echo?

Per the vendor, it does not.

Good price (I bought my Boom from Amazon). But I’ve grown suspicious of the cooperative nature of my Boom’s Bluetooth. It worked fine for the first several months (in conjunction with a Fire tablet). Suddenly, I could not achieve any sort of connection via Bluetooth–even after a hour’s discussion with Amazon reps. As for the fidelity, it’s good but not audiophile quality. Nor can it compare with a Bose Soundlink, which seems specially tuned to bring out the solo instruments in a symphony orchestra or the dialogue in the stereo mix from my Sony TV. (I confess I’m abnormally fastdious, rejecting some CDs because of the audio engineer–incl. Rudy Van Gelder, who simply cannot record an acoustic grand piano. Rudy does fine by a Hammond B3 (Jimmy Smith) or Selmer Mark VI (Hank Mobley, Tina Brooks).

Does this have controls for music playback? (Play/Pause, Forward, Back) From the pictures, I only see vol control.

Best to clarify this; it’s bluetooth, so of course you can “connect” to an Echo device (I have one connected to an Echo Dot).

What it won’t do is allow for controls (volume, etc.) via Alexa.

Pretty hard to tell what the difference is between the Megaboom and the Boom 2…

Yes, you can play/pause and skip a track by holding the speaking and tapping on the top. 1 tap to play/pause. two taps to skip. I own two for about 3 years now and love them. I use them in the hockey locker room to get my team amped up, use it in the shower, at the beach/pool. Basically anywhere I go that I need music, one or both speakers come with.

$40

The Megaboom is bigger, heavier, and puts out more volume.

My Megaboom experience:

I got it for holiday season last year, as a present from my husband. I use it at least 2x a week in my craft room during sewing and have never tested the waterproof capability. It is louder than my Jambox and my other bluetooth speakers which is important when trying to hear it over 1000 stitches a minute. The battery life is amazing. It doesn’t hop or roll off the table no matter how loudly I play whatever I’m playing - from NPR to goth music to 90’s pop. I have other speakers that are too light the handle their bass. This is plenty hefty.

Sometime around October the speaker refused to hold a charge and would not stay on for more than a minute. As it was purchased new from “Buy More” in December, it was solidly under warranty. Logitech had me mail them the unit at their expense and sent me a brand new, not refurbished unit a week later. I was surprised by the service. This one for sale here on Woot is refurbished so it would NOT come with this service - something to consider when purchasing a battery powered device.
