Western Digital has 3 year limited warranty standard; why are these only one year when you buy from woot?

Keep a mind the purpose of these drives - 24/7 surveillance, NOT general computer usage. They are optimized for large, streaming writes to permit recording by many different cameras at once.

Hmm…both Newegg and Amazon list this drive with a 3-yr warranty.

Would these be good for a tivo?

Can anyone from woot comment on the shorter warranty period? If this drive is brand new and warrantied directly through WD, why does it only carry a 1 year warranty instead of the standard 3?

In other words, it’s a generic hard drive.

They work just fine for storage. I’ve had two 2 TB in my system doing exactly that for about 2 years now they work fine. Not terribly fast but fine for bulk storage.

i was going to get this for my TiVo, but the Purple one is bad for that I gather?
