I recommend these if you need external storage. I have several WD drives and the metal finish is my favorite. Looks great with my Asus zenbook (also from woot)

It’s too bad that WD stopped including cases with these portable drives. I get one from Amazon just to have some protection for these.

Are these solid state drives?

no

So these come loaded with Slayer, MegaDeth, and Pantera songs!!!

METAL FOREVER!!!

Not much of a deal when you can get 3TB one for $108 brand new at Amazon with free shipping…

The reviews indicate a fairly high failure rate, but don’t specify if the drive is being transported a lot, which seems like it would expose it to more damage. Anyone know if one of these would be dependable as a stationary backup drive?

That’s not the metallic edition, and the price you mention is backordered.

That’s the standard edition… this is the one woot is selling ($129)

I’ve had the 500GB version of the My Passport for years now and I’ve beaten the hell out of it, seriously to the point that the case, which isn’t meant to come off, has popped off. Several times. I just snap it back on it keeps on chugging. Not a nibble of data lost. We use 1TB versions of these at my company as loaners for users to back up to when swapping systems and we’ve never had an issue with them being recognized nor any data loss. I’d probably be in for one of the blue ones except that I have a deep set distrust of “refurbished” hard drives of any sort… still… shiny… so shiny…

Pretty much any portable USB drive is. If one is not, it just needs to be formatted.

I looked at Costco to see what they had before buying this, they have the blue 3TB version brand new with the case for $119.99 with free shipping. With Costco’s generous return policy and it being new, I just bought it.

I came here to post this.
I bought the same drive from Costco about a month ago for $119.99 with free shipping. Metal Edition in blue.

$99 for a refurb isn’t that great a deal in light of the Costco price with free shipping and Costco fantastic return policy.
