Well, this morning, as I was preparing to leave for work, both of my kids were insistent on giving me big, long hugs before I left. That’s a great way to start off my day!

I remember the ‘Employee Appreciation Day’ we had a few years back…
Cookout at the lake - hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas, chips, desserts - everything was provided by… a collection the supervisors took up from the employees. I felt soooooo appreciated (even as I refused to participate)!!

The company I work is really good. IMHO. Been around since 1906, fifth generation now.
Around 700 employees. They do several luncheons through out the year, one for groups of departments, then one large annual one with a nice catered meal and giveaways.
None of which would matter if the over-all culture was bad.
I know there is a bit of animosity between the plant and the office, but that will always be the case… Projection mostly.
Next year will be ten years for me, hoping to put in another 15 or so before retirement.
Doughnuts are like a handshake. Small things matter.

I totally agree that small things matter.
Around here, I’d settle for an overall decent culture. THAT would feel like it was Employee Appreciation Day every day… but the culture here is bad and becoming downright laughable.
Many years ago, the agency threw a huge picnic annually for all employees and their families, with food, prizes, games, you name it. Employees did volunteer their time, in 2 hour blocks, but they never asked us to foot the bill.
And the day-to-day atmosphere was much more one of ‘leadership’ listening to the rank and file and making changes to create a better working environment.
Now? Not so much.

Yeah, those things really do matter.
I’ve had my time in older businesses on the decline and start ups that allowed me to ride the wave for a time.
I’m over all that.
I worked at a Box store for years, but I started shortly after the opened.
The culture of the store the first few years was totally different than it became.
It became a red-haired step-child to the corporate.

My mower is battery powered… typically, I’ll tell myself that when that battery runs out, I’m done.
It is good, tho, when the battery dies just as I’m finished.

Kinda surprised that so many people list getting all green lights makes for a great day
since usa hates traffic so much, why not invest in things to reduce it

I just had a green light streak last night and this AM. Well, it was more of a stale yellow/glowing red but very exhilarating.
Then I think that it only means that I will get a day when I will miss evry light and get stuck at every intersection
