The '08 is wonderful! And a crazy steal around the $20 mark but I think its all sold out. Honestly, all of Clark’s wines are a steal! I am not a chardonnay drinker but loved the '05 Faux Chablis offered not too long ago. At my house, it is in Clark (and Peter, and Scott H, and Pedroncelli) we trust!
I seriously considered buying another batch, but I checked in the cellar and found six bottles of the 2007, three of the 2008, and one lonely bottle of the 2006. Since I’m trying to work off my inventory (I could not buy a single bottle, and last about four years before I run out of wine), I passed.
But, Clark’s wines have never disappointed me yet. I had a bottle of the 2003 Chardonnay recently and it’s still very, very good.
So - should I pop open that 2006, or does it still have years to go before it hits its peak?
The 2006, which is a Sonoma blend, is pretty much ready to go, but has a good five or ten years of staying power left, and will acquire added complexity and silkiness. Right now it’s a fruit bomb, so I guess it’s a judgment call based on your preferences. It is a museum piece - the last of my many explorations before settling on Diamond Ridge as the sole vineyard I now hang my hat on.
I have some library wines from the '90s: the '94 Mt. St. George Reserve and the '96 Napa (Sawyer Vineyard) that we could negotiate single bottle purchases for if you wanted to further explore that era in a vertical tasting with friends.
I appreciate your graciousness and trust. Let me know what you see. I don’t think I need tell you that CF is an odd duck, and can always be expected to carry herbal aspects, but it is almost never muddy and usually has great palate energy, which can be off-putting to the uninitiated wine lover weaned on Cab Sauv. But from what you have said, I’m betting my corkiness hypothesis is correct, in which case I owe you a bottle.
Fair warning, gang! We are 92% depleted. I can pretty much guarantee we sell out today.
congrats on the sell out!
Congrats Clark!
I am considering myself lucky to have snuck back at the 11th hour to snag another three bottles!
Woot! Woot!
Cheers!
Congratulations Clark! Can’t wait to see what you offer us next!
