I bought the triple wood planter the last time it was on woot about a month ago. Planter looks great, BUT IT LEAKS WATER! Also, it is too late now to get these to grow in time for Christmas.
FYI Bulbs can be used again every year, You would need to transplant them back and forth.
We bought 2 of the amaryllis last time these were offered, put them in our sunny kitchen window and they are growing nicely! This time, we went for the paperwhites in the moon bowl…those are some big bulbs!
Do not ever buy Amaryllis bulbs. They grow easily and are SO BEAUTIFUL. After the flowers fade, you’ll keep the pretty leaves growing until they go dormant then put them in the basement to winter over because the flowers are SO BEAUTIFUL that you will want to see them again. The bulbs will grow and multiply and produce many flowers that are SO BEAUTIFUL. They will become too big for the pots and you will divide them into more pots, because they’re SO BEAUTIFUL. You will do this for several seasons until you put the pots outside in a shady sheltered place because you no longer have room for them in the house. You will leave the pots out too long in the fall and the bulbs will freeze and die and then YOU WILL BE FREE! Haunts me to this day.
I feel your pain. I nurtured a peace lily for over 12 yr. It had taken over the dining room and was bigger around than the table. When we finally moved it came down to either assigning it a room in the new house or, well, saying “good-bye”. What a relief - I can’t believe I let that thing worry me so. Now I’ve got two Christmas/Easter/whenever cacti plants sent to me over a couple of years as "thank you"s. I’m now pleading with people to take one. I have a hard time just throwing away something living - however, I managed to do that once so the second time should be easier…right? lol

Put an ad in the gardening section of craigslist saying you’re giving it away. Don’t put it in the free section, you want people who want plants to see it.
Ha ha…the main photo makes NO sense in relation to the winter bulbs being offered.
The main photo is of succulents which are derived by seed or more commonly by propagating. Very, very few are from bulbs.
Amaryllis and paper whites bloom out FAST. In fact, many bloom on route for delivery. You are then left with green stems. Paper whites are extremely perfumey. Amaryllis not as much.
Yes, you can dig up the bulb after the season, but be sure you store it properly or it will shrivel up or rot out by the time next year rolls around.
These type of plants are good host/hostess gifts for the holiday in lieu of wine.
I’m finding it very interesting reading about the Amaryllis and digging up the bulb. I’ve never done this with mine, and it blooms at least 3 times/year.
What I do is, after the bloom fades, I cut off the greens. I then don’t water it for about a month. When I start watering it again, the greens grow first, and then it blooms again. Granted, I don’t end up with all these extra bulbs, but I don’t really need more. My window sill is already full
Anyone know what kind of plants came in the succulent garden? I bought one for my wife and I may have left it in the box unopened and it looks like a bunch of the plants withered up. Will they come back by chance?
