I guess I should have opened the sealed box and tested it before letting it sit on a shelf until I needed it. It did work while plugged in intermittently, but either the battery is completely dead, or the charging portion is dead.
By looking at the difference between a Sony controller and one of these, I fully understand why it didn’t work. It is garbage. It looks like these were built as Sony counterfeits, that come out of the box on the quick road to failing. Mine apparently had a conscience, and committed suicide before it got to me
