2014 Woot Cellars LARGE BOLD TEXT Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley
Pedroncelli + Woot = auto buy!
MN sure lit up quickly for this one! Can’t beat a Woot Cellars wine made by Pedroncelli! Especially a Zin/PS blend.
Any estimates on the aging potential?
Hurray! Another woot cellars. It’s labeled Zinfandel so it’s gotta be at least 80% or is it 85%. I’m sure there were debaters from over the weekend on this.

It’s 75% or more by the rules, iirc. Too bad they’re being cagey about it…maybe Ed will tell us what the blend is
We did, in fact, try this on Saturday night. I can sum it up by simply saying this is exactly what you’d expect for a Woot Cellars Pedroncelli Zin. It’s big, it’s rich, it’s young, and it will likely have legs. It improved significantly with air as well. Lots of fruit, hints of some other complexities. Nicely balanced despite the high abv. Sorry I didn’t take detailed notes!
As with both Pedroncelli and Woot Cellars, I’d give this 1-3 years before drinking. It’s very juicy and fruity right now and more time to integrate (or a loooong decant) are in order.
I’m going to contemplate whether to get one set or two, unless somebody wants to help make it 1.5 sets.
Dear Woot! Please stop it with the 5 bottle offers. Nobody wants to receive a partially filled box of wine.
Amen to that!

Yes indeed we got a chance to try this last Saturday. And it was…not ready for prime time. It’s young, its fruity and woody, the spice was subdued, and it had a short finish. But, it’s a Pedroncelli Zin. I’ve had many of these over the years, most of them at least 4 years after vintage. Those were all consistently good - red and black fruit, spice, smooth tannins, earth, and pepper in balance and harmony. I’ve no doubt Large Bold Text will reach the promised land of Pedroncelli deliciousness some time in 2018. Buy it, put it away for at least a year, then enjoy one a year until you run out.
In the mean time, enjoy football season!

Just got in the house 10 minutes ago, got to the computer to see LARGE BOLD TEXT. As klezman and merbill said, it’s a big bold Zin, with plenty of time to wait for it to be at its best. Give it some air and it’s nice now, but it will come into its own in a couple of years or so. Thanks to the SoCal crew for having a get-together for us and giving WD an excuse to send some out for our tasting.
I just enjoyed my last bottle of consumerus last night… Feeling torn between my typical love of woot cellars, and everyone thus far recommending laying it down for a few years… I’m not very patient…
Buy two sets, no tearing needed.
Any chance this ships to NJ? Pedroncelli typically does - I’ve got a cellar full of them from Woot.

Got a free sample of this. It was very good for an $11 wine. I didn’t want to drink because I was leaving for vacation the next day, but I felt it was my duty.
Large bold text was fairly prototypical of a young California zin. I’d say it was quite comparable to turley juvenile if that’s your jam. It ain’t ridge or Carlisle but it’s quite nice as an everyday drinker. I don’t necessarily agree that it needs to be put away for a year, but it can’t hurt.
Not much more to say but I think I’m going to be buying so that’s pretty high praise.
Boss Monster Mother?
Clone of the Boss?
Should I be typing in all caps?
Seconded. I can’t imagine sitting on it for a whole year! Patience shmatience
Thanks for the review. Would you say it’s also good for a $12 bottle of wine? Hope so, I’m about to buy it.
Edit: OK, so with tax, it’s now a $13 bottle of wine. It’d better be damn good!
Thanks. Dry creek zin from this producer at this price, is in and of itself compelling.
Further, I happen to think the label (front and back) is fantastic satire and among the best woot cellars labels since maybe Boss Monster or the first EHP.
i’m going to have one on my desk in full view for the foreseeable future.
Maybe you can stop torturing us with that bottle of D’Ontspille that shows up in pictures from time to time???
