I’m willing to split an order with any of the usual suspects…
Grape Debator report:
I’m also happened upon a bottle of this in a most surprising way- handed to me by WineDavid himself in the very offices of wine.woot- I was on a week’s adventure with my wife Shannon (celebrating our 25th anniversary), meeting some of our favorite wine.woot winemakers. The details are interesting, but I will leave those out and try to give a quick description of the wine:
I have no experience with orange moscato, so a lot of this blend was new to me. We tasted this chilled, but warm enough to taste clearly. This is a very light colored wine, and has a lovely floral nose that takes a few minutes to appear. Definite peach in the nose, as well as tropical fruits, possibly even mango, pineapple and lychee. Shannon described it as fresh on the nose, and agreed with the tropical descriptors.
Similar fruit followed on the palate, and while the wine doesn’t list any residual sugar, it is so aromatic that it drinks slightly semi-dry, which for us was a positive. It has good nervy acidity to pair with food, and Shannon was picking up a grassy note- everything for her was on the front of the tongue- not the deepest wine, but enjoyable. I got a bit of lime, and sometimes it had some slate and grapefruit, like a Reisling.
In some ways, this reminds me of a Finger Lakes white blend- good acid, very aromatic, nice pleasant flavors, great with food. A perfect late summer/early fall deck wine. If I hadn’t just destroyed my wine budget this past week meeting Clark Smith, Mike Faulk, Peter Wellington, John Brown at Pedroncelli, Scott Harvey, and other purchases during visits to A. Rafanelli, Ridge, Davis Family Vineyards, William Harrison, Iron Horse, and Loxton, I would be all over this!
Tardy rat- late debater. A nice blend that should encourage Chardonnay drinkers to be comfortable trying different varietals. For comparison I didn’t think it was as fruity as Pine Ridge Chenin blanc/ Viognier. Did not have the body or complexity of a Roessler Chardonnay or WS faux Chablis both recently up on WE. Unlikely to be confused with anything on the Riesling spectrum. Fruitier and less grassy than a grassy Sauv Blanc.
Color is pale yellow. Nose citrus, faint fleeting floral. Balanced across tongue, citrus with faint fleeting peach/apricot/pineapple. Initial grassiness faded after first glass and fruits opened a little. Acidic but not astringent Peppery mouthfeel, moderate finish. Does not pair well with Minestrone. Hope this helps someone get feel for where it falls on the spectrum. In for one. Thanks to all fellow wooters and WD and L&L for the golden ticket.
In for a set. If anyone wants 2-3 bottles email me.
Cheers to all the debaters. Solid rattage abounds!
Ok, I’ll bite. In for one.
I have haven’t been disappointed with a Woot cellars white yet.
Thanks for all the great rattage!
I also bit, if anyone wants a couple bottles, send me a PM
PM
Sorry you got beat to it.
I might have 2 bottles to spare.
I don’t recall a woot cellar taking so long to actually ship. Is this a good/bad sign?
It looks like it has shipped via summer shipping, label created 9/12. Tracking doesn’t start till Fedex gets it in St Louis, MO for me. I expect to see it next early next week.
