Woot Site problems

I see a lot of random posts that complain about random woot issues. Lets see if we can get a collection going, and perhaps some fixes.

My current issue is that the forum display is FUBARed in Firefox 1.5. The stretch alignment that woot uses is bad enough, but now its gotten to be a jumble of letters.

Example

oh, i didn’t realize 1.5 was out yet… hmm, upgrade and mess up woot? yeah, guess i will…

As I tell the network admin at work. Firefox is great if you only want to view about half the websites on the Internet as intended.

I understand that us IE users are doing things the wrong way, but the fact of the matter is that right now the wrong way is basically the right way because of market penetration.

A good example of this is that on my site, http://www.getyourowntots.com I have about 80% of my 2000 visitors a week using Firefox. Where as the website I manage at work, (Financial company) has about 95% IE users during a month.

It is definately an interesting thing. But alas if it doesn’t work in Firefox, you can just about gurantee it will work in IE.

Think about electrical plugs in the U.S. vs. electrical plugs in Europe? Which plug is wrong?

Just my two cents… or three.

Well slhilbert (I go to your site w/ Ffox

http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/happy/045.gif

), for browsing, what works for me is Ffox w/ the “View in IE” ext. Just right click anywhere on a page and it opens in an IE window, which I, otherwise, only bothet to open when connecting to sites thru a vpn client or Citrix.

I’m not switching to 1.5, till I know most of my extensions will work. How is it, MeanieMan?

eta-sorry MM, this is going off-topic. If people click the report link, in their post that has a site complaint, it will get, wow… “reported”, hehe.

I have very few problems with viewing websites in firefox. In fact Microsoft and TrendMicro are the only two sites that come to mind right now. Of course the browser war is very much unlike “electrical plugs”. I use firefox for the reduced security issues, better pop up blocker. and , much much smaller use of system resources.
It this case, there is a better option.
The current problem with firefox is that it has issues with sloppy or unprofessional coding.

I may have misunderstood this part but I understand how cookie cutter forums work. There is a report button for each post besides mine, this is meant to report posts which have issues with the forum rules. Besides, the display issue isn’t with the posts its with the thread listing page.

I made this hoping to gather ideas of other possible issues, and maybe find some solutions thats others have come across.

I meant my Ffox comments were going off-topic.
NP, the thread is fine. I was just adding that “report” comment:

  • to get back on topic

    http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/happy/045.gif
  • because a lot of people don’t know what the report feature is, so it was for the benefit of the general population. It can be used to report anything and then gets called to the attn. of the proper woot staffer.

(Mind telling if you use many Ffox extensions and if so, have you found they’ve been updated to be 1.5 compatible? PM is fine, so I don’t take things off-topic, again, heh.)

Seems like a whole lot of [:(][:'(][:@]

Report?

it’s just a clickable link which says “report”… no explanation whatsoever

people are just expected to GUESS what happens?

nothing there on the edit page says what IF ANYTHING is going to be done with any such “Report”

and if you bother to, add a title, type something, and click “Post” the VERY BEST you can hope for is an error message.

Start your own woot . . . geesh, for all your complaints, why aren’t you doing something better?

Well, it was clearly visible that you reported my post four times, which is why I am here. In the next post above, I explained what the report button does:

"NP, the thread is fine. I was just adding that “report” comment:

You know I’m not a codeslave. You know where to find them I can only pass on your suggestions, but something tells me you prefer to say things to them your way.

(<—please, let that be a wink and not another redirect to tubgirl, lol! I can’t take a third bad day in a row…and we all know bad things happen in threes, hehe.)

I am gone, now…

eta- I’d have responded to your report of my post sooner, but I was addressing your issues with probation in the subwoofer thread, in case you missed them.
