The Algorithmic Trap Matrix
Have you ever noticed after you’ve searched for something outside of the app within 24 to 48 hours, suddenly that product or something similar is magically on a closeout price? I would imagine the majority of you would say yes. It’s a psychological tactic that I feel is somewhat dishonest. In case you didn’t know, here’s why:
Capture: Third-party scripts log your external product searches to exploit a high-intent 48-hour purchasing window.
Lockdown: Omitting an internal search bar prevents direct price comparison and forces passive feed consumption.
Placement: Automation instantly injects matching warehouse inventory into your personalized app view.
Trigger: Pre-coded “Closeout” templates frame the item against an inflated MSRP to manufacture artificial scarcity and force immediate conversion.
