WootWatcher (for *nix wooters)

http://bubba.org/software/downloads/wootwatcher.txt

Written in Perl. You can either run from cron or in daemon mode. Configurable regular expression so you can “watch” for specific items and be notified (woken up) of them. Woot-off compatible. YMMV.

Enjoy.

“time in seconds to check in daemon mode. Please do not make this value too
small for the sake of woot’s servers. Please don’t set this value to
anything below 5 minutes.”

^^^Thoughtful of you…now, if I just knew what to do with this.

hey bubba, get in touch with mwelliot. maybe we can get a quick line thrown in at the wooters thread saying “If you’d like to use wooters but use Linux, check this out.” something along those lines.

Or you can sign up for WootAlerts. I know I don’t have customizable regular expressions to watch for specific items, but if Woot changes up their product titles (e.g. you were watching for Bag of Crap, and the item name was Random Crap). you’ll miss out. Play it safe and get an alert for every item!

You can get an alert for every item with this as well. If is selling a Bread Maker, then the title is going to have “Bread” in it. If all you can do is dis the one peice of functionality that makes this better than the service you are offering, then why even bother posting? I guess some people enjoy being woken up to an alert for some mystery speakers or a wine cooler, but not I. Thanks for your non-interest and constructive comment.

Very cool - I can’t use it as im on a windows box but it’s very impressive seeing it written up in perl

I didn’t mean to dis your contribution. I think the community involvement is one of the best things about Woot. I just saw this thread as another change to mention the WootAlerts, maybe for people who can’t run this themselves.

Sorry for being non-constructive. It was never my intent.

Huh? Perl works fine from a DOS command prompt.

Yep, you just need to install something like ActivePerl.

Or if you are a hard core *nix geek, you can hand-code a perl interpreter using a chewing gum wrapper and some string.

Speaking of *nix geeks, is anyone gonna be at Linuxworld Expo this week? I’m tempted to wear my Woot shirt there.

You probably wouldn’t be the only one.

I know, I actually have ActivePerl installed as well. However, I am lazy… which is no excuse for anything but I prefer to use it for everything.

I apologize for invading your forum up front, but feel this is worth while and will only take 15 seconds away from a chat.

Please donate any used pair of prescription glasses to help both children and adults that cannot afford clear vision, to see for the first time.

Not asking for money, just one pair (or as many as you can find laying around [h] ) to help people that cannot afford to see.

I will post pictures and stories from the Sonora, MX mission I will be on in September off site to show you what your contributions meant to the people in need.

I appreciate woot for allowing this to post, and the person with the most pairs sent in by Sept 12th, (nudge factor coming, and send them all together please, so they can be counted) will get a package worth over $500 including a new Home Toshiba DVD Recorder and Dell 5.1 speaker set. This comes out of my pocket; this is just one of many, and I do mean many, charities I try to support.
