Worst bug bite?

My ‘68 burned my forearm on the exhaust manifold. Does that count?

Ticks! Certain ones can make you allergic to meat!
This one!

When I lived in Australia I got bit by a fire ant and not only did it hurt like heck wen it happened it radiated pain for WEEKS after and took forever to heal. I have never had any other type of bite come even close to that ant bite!

Ticks, disease ridden ticks.
I’ve seen the damage a brown recluse can do.
Black widows are just as bad. That’s the worst we seem to have around these parts.
Certain there are a lot of terrible bites. The rountine terrible bite occurs in the fall in the midwest. There are these little bugs you barely see and pack punch. Apparently midges or something like that. They make mosquitoes almost bearable.

I voted for Spiders, but then I remembered fleas, ticks, chiggers, and oak leaf mites! I am almost immune to chiggers after years here in the Midwest, but the first bite or two of the season still really itches.

Fire Ants
Yup. Got nipped in the hand by one. Was the size of a grapefruit by the time I got to the ER.
According to the Schmidt Pain Index, the most painful insect stings (or bites) come from: 1) The bullet ant (Paraponera clavata, from Central America); 2) The tarantula hawk (a kind of wasp, including a bunch of species in the genuses Pepsis and Hemipepsis, and found on every continent except Antarctica), and the warrior wasp (half a dozen species in the genus Synoeca, found in Central and South American jungles).
Justin Schmidt classified most bee stings as Level 2 (using his four point pain scale). He described the sensation of being stung by the bullet ant (Level 4) as “pure, intense, brilliant pain…like walking over flaming charcoal with a three-inch nail embedded in your heel.” I now itch all over and do not plan to close my eyes ever again. Why did you make do this research, Woot?
Anyone who didn’t say “Ant” has never met a FIRE ant ![]()
