Solid reviews (3.9 out of 5.0) over at amazon
I just got a Hubsan X4 yesterday, at a Drone show I attended. Wish Woot would have had this deal 2 days ago!!
Anyways - I’m loving my Hubsan, and the Estes 4606 should be tons of fun also. If you’re new to drones/quad-copters, and have been tempted to buy one, Woot’s deal on this one seems to be pretty good!!
I bought 2 of these last time one for me and one for my brother. These are a great deal. Very fun to fly. You don’t need a lot of room. When you get good switch controls to fast mode.
I have a similar mini-quadcopter. Like above reviews, I really like it. It’s surprisingly fun and agile to fly. VERY powerful for its size. Be gentle on your controls and practice practice practice!
I’ve had a couple different versions of these (estes, hubsan). I bought a couple of these last time they were on here, and I can easily say this one is my favorite. Slightly larger controller than the others makes a huge difference and it seemed to respond slightly better.
I ordered 2 of these last time and returned them both. Maybe I had bad luck, but the drones that I got had the copper wiring sticking out and would get stuck in the rotors. In addition, on BOTH of them I had one rotor almost completely nonfunctional. I would reccomend staying away from this one and not getting suckered into the $20 price point.
So, am I the only one who thinks this looks like a flying Optimus Prime head? Surely that can’t just be coincidence.
I totally see the Optimus Prime. I am in for one of these. This deal seems like…“more than meets the eye!”
I just came back to give people reasonable expectations of these.
TL;DR version: buy more than 1.
If you look closely, you’ll see the frame is actually a PCB (printed circuit board) with propellers and a plastic shell stuck to it. The motors on these tiny drones are known to fail eventually. Since they are cheap here, buy 3 so you have backups… plus you’ll have extra batteries!
The Amazon page you posted is selling the “nano” version of this drone. The drone offered on Woot today is larger and of better quality.
Offhand, anyone know if these speak the FlySky 2.4GHz protocol?
I did some googling and was not able to find anything conclusive.
I ask because I have a FlySky module for my 9XR radio (I also have DSM2/DSMX and FrSky modules). With the FlySky module, I’ve been able to use my good radio with a number of cheaper “disposable” quads, like the Syma X1, which flies much nicer with a good radio instead of the crappier one that it comes with.
I’ve already got a tracking number on this, it must be flying itself to my house!
