Your Choice: Saeco Espresso Machines

[QUOTE=LurkerDan, post:33, topic:371977]
Can someone explain the difference between the two models? I read the descriptions, but the marketing speak makes my head spin.

I know this is a bit too late to change your purchasing decision…
Seattle Coffee Gear compares the Saeco Superautomatics..

. this made me want the Giro Odea. It is the ‘more advanced’ machine and a better deal after all in my opinion. better grinder supposedly, can pre-warm espresso cups on top of machine, rapid steam, the steam wand is also much better - now, I have a separate milk frother though for this usually, more powerful heating element (if I understand it right, provides more constant heat - but not sure). So, more advanced.
However, the Vienna Plus is a bit ‘easier’ on the end-user side it seems and it is faster to change the grind settings there and you seem to have more granular control over how much coffee you want to grind (vs the 3 settings on the Odea Giro)
to get a decent look at the machines
check out these videos about the Odea Giro (refurb and new)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-QBScqsXQ0#!
or

same for Vienna Plus:

Also you can find the manual at Seattle Coffee Gear easily.
I would watch both videos, the refurb and the non-refurb videos.

Just received my Giro. It’s WONDERFUL, and such an amazing bargain at this price. It’s replacing my 18 year old Saeco Via Venezia, a superautomatic. I’ve been using Saeco superautomatic machines since 1988. If you take the time to get to know them, they will serve you well for a very long time.
The only thing missing from the Giro is a ground coffee bypass, but I’d rather have the Optidose instead.
The machine is in fab condition and looks brand new. I’m very pleased, thanks Woot!

nice! glad to hear it!

my refurb vienna plus arrived today. i am disappointed. ground coffee is all over inside of machine, no liquid coffee ever comes out of it, frothing attachment does not work, two red lights are on indicating overheating. i could go on. will ask for refund.

We’re sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your order. We recommend that you contact Philips Saeco Support to see if they can help resolve the issue.

If they can’t seem to help, then feel free to email Woot Member Services at support@woot.com and they’ll be glad to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Woot Staff

I got the Odea. Now this is REALLY weird – the brew unit is partially reversed, so the brewed coffee, instead of being routed to the coffee spout, has a tube coming out the side (right-hand side as you’re looking at the machine). All I can figure is they mixed up the brew unit with an almost-compatible one. It does not look like the valve and tube can simple be reversed to come out the correct side, because the required screw holes are not present. I’ll be phoning Seattle Coffee Gear and see what they can do.

From photos on the web, it looks like they installed a brew group from the Incanto model instead of the Odea one.

Amazing service response from Seattle Coffee Gear – correct brew group is on its way.

I’m very happy. I was very close to purchasing this machine from Costco when it was $399 the week before this sale. At $220 I should have bought two. I’ve been up for 17 days since this arrived. Outstanding equipment.
