Bought it last time really just to get another of the Alpha backpacks. All the gear is just a bonus. Yes, you could put together your own kit and customize it, but not for this price. This is a great start for someone who doesn’t have any survival gear yet, and theres plenty of room in the bag to add your own stuff too.
I added some food/water, a larger/better knife, a canteen and Sawyer Mini filter, a trauma kit (although the first aid kit included is not bad), and a few other cheap items.
In short, a great bag!
I tried to buy this last time, but Woot messed up somehow and wouldn’t send me one. I’m a forgiving fellow, though, so I’m giving them another chance.
The knife does NOT lock.
Hammock will need straps to actually
I bought this and it’s a great value…but I’m not a fan of the knife and lack of tree straps.
Minor complaints overall I realize.
Don’t be distracted by the number of pieces, Really, this kit has 7 pieces if you count the entire medical kit as one item. The Backpack is great, except for a lack of waist belt. Still has a sternum strap however to prevent shoulder strain. The backpacks normally go on sale on Woot for $40, so if a knife, hammock, flashlight, some rope, whatever a ‘walkabout rain fly’ is (AKA trashbag poncho) and medical bag of dubious quality are worth $50, then go for it. (I’d recommend just wait and buy the backpack by itself)
I’ve been in the market for a jungle hammock, can someone share their personal experiences with this one?
Edit: found the hammock on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IUQ6VM2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_cA2mwbMYQCAHF) and checked out the netting. Unfortunately it’s only mosquito netting, in Florida we have no-see-ums as well. They’re much smaller and even more ferocious. If you’re seriously considering hammock camping in Florida, get a model with proper netting like the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AIFLX2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_7I2mwb9YCTH8E) it is manufactured with no see ums in mind. If these insects aren’t in your area then this Yukon Outfitters hammock might work well for you!
I had the same problem as BlueWeasel, and the knife that came with my kit WOULD NOT lock in place.
The rest of the kit was pretty nice, and the backpack itself is worth the deal price.
@BlueWeasel and @skibeast,
We’re sorry to hear of your experience with our Locking knife that’s…um not locking. That’s not cool at all. Please contact us at email@example.com and we’ll get you fixed right up!
We encourage you to please check out our product video to get a better feel of all the contents broken-down and displays the true value in this great item. YO Alpha Survival Kit video Our Emergency Medical Kit has contents for Survival and Medical situations. Please find still photo below of its contents to clarify and remove any dubiety (not sure if that’s a word, but hey it’s Friday!)
First of all, sweet name. Secondly, our netting is definitely no-see-um rated. More exactly: 972 holes (27 x 36) per inch. Tried and tested numerous times at our testing facility in muggy West Tennessee and around the globe.
Thank you all for the support and happy Wooting Friday!!
Is this a “tactical” survival kit? Because just being a survival kit will only satisfy half of my military-prepper fetish.
Sweet! I actually came back to post your reply and saw you answered my concerns here! Happy birthday to me! 36 and still getting toys
Reply from the manufacturer:
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Yes, our Mosquito netting protects against no see ums. You’ll be fully protected!
Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

I got the same pack last woot, (not the kit). One shoulder strap buckle was on backwards, so the strap wouldn’t clutch. I fixed it because it was easier than returning it. Also in my opinion a pack this size should have a waist strap.
Make sure you test the hydration bladder as soon as you get this item.
I bought one of these on October 9. When I got around to testing the hydration bladder, I found that it leaked no matter how much I tried to tighten the connection from the bladder to the hose.
A friend of mine also ordered one on the same day and had the exact same issue. He got a replacement from woot and it also had the same leaking problem. Woot advised me to contact Yukon about a replacement so I guess I’ll have to contact them now.
Kind of a bummer
That is a bummer, and apologize for this inconvenience. Please do reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We offer a one year Yukon warranty on all our gear and stand behind our products. Thanks for your support and feedback.
DON’T FORGET TO SAVE A FIVE SPOT ON THE LIFE STRAW IF YOUR DOING THE HAMMER ON THIS THING!
P.S. how did this tag get below my posts?? Did i do something wrong?
Does anyone know if this set comes with the updated Alpha backpack or is it older back stock?
Hi Blue Weasel,
The knife has a safety burr on the locking mechanism from the factory. This burr can be removed by swiftly flicking the knife open a couple of times Then the knife will open and lock as needed.
Wish I had this deal starting out. Kind of hard to justify when I now have several of each of these items already.
If you don’t have something like this in your closet already, I highly suggest it. Great start to a camping set as well. Just need to add some tree straps.
Yukon confirms this is the new stock.
