I don’t eat anything that lives in the water, near the water or flies over it.
Watch a video from “Canned fish files” late at night and I guarantee you will be shopping sardines on Amazon
Fun fact: canned sardines and mackerel are absolutely loaded with omega 3 - more than just about any other fish… and they are very low mercury. You can eat them every day.
MAHIIIII. Or Bonito.
Halibut!

Red Snapper
Haven’t had it in a while - but LOVE stuffed flounder! ![]()
Finally some love for halibut. I read a long way down the page before someone finally mentioned it.
Ooh so good but overfished and expensive. So for both reasons i almost never have it anymore. Soft, buttery, flavorful without being “fishy,” not grainy texture.
i prefer green onions, a barest touch of sesame oil, and light brown soy rather than lemony.
Unagi (grilled conger eel fish)
Super savory, served slightly dried from grilling, concentrated umami taste with a slightly honeyed soy glaze. Green onions, sesame, and a few slices of fresh red pepper to taste.
Pompano
Nope. Sardines and anchovies are two different beasts. Anchovies are more salty. I’ve never had those, but I’ll bet they’re good!
On the sardine pizza, it’s just pizza sauce, sardines, black olives, onions and cheese. That’s the way my Sicilian Mama Tre made it. We add ground hamburger to it for a little more… food.
My little cousins tell me you have turned them into pizza. We need to talk…
Kidding - love anchovy or sprats in pizza. I make do with sardines that are seasoned.
Recommend these if you can find them under $2.50 at some ethnic markets. Have gone up with everything imported.
Halibut.
I used to eat fresh caught Halibut in Alaska–yummy. It is very versatile and can be cooked in a wide variety of ways.
Dolphin!
If you’ve ever been anywhere near the USVI, you would have gotten a saltfish pate (salted cod) and it is always delish with a vitamalt
Halibut
Grouper! Fresh from the gulf of ‘Merica
Those that don’t taste like fish…
IMHO, Great Lakes Yellow Perch and Walleye, but not exclusively; plenty of others mentioned here too.
