I’m not a fan of these. I bought 2 of them a few months ago.
I can only get them to work with the Zmodo website or app. iSpy will not connect to them and if I browse to the camera’s website I get a blank page. They are supposed to have a speaker and mic, but neither work. When monitoring them on the Zmodo app, they frequently disconnect and I have to reload it.
If anyone has suggestions on these issues, I’m all ears.
I’ve owned the very similar Yi Camera for several months now and find it to be easy to use. It’s also about $10 less for the same features.
I’d say avoid these. I got one on woot not that long ago as a cheap IP camera and still have not been able to get it to connect to any of my WiFi networks to use. Also waited too long to try it after getting it so missed return window.
How do you avoid getting caught in a Mirai botnet? aren’t web enabled cameras the primary culprit?
Avoid like the plague! I got a set of ZModo’s when they were up prior… so far I’ve tried out two of them, and while they DO work for a bit, they eventually start misbehaving grievously.
Video stops transmitting, and only sometimes will unplugging it bring it back to life.
On top of that, to do much of anything with the camera requires the onboard website, which requires IE/an OCX to function…
I purchased one prior and I can’t recommend it for the following reasons (some which have been mentioned earlier)
The motion detection settings are erratic. I cannot get the device to only record on movement and not on sound as well. This camera is in my living room and the sound alerts kick off every 15 seconds so it floods the saved footage with junk footage I have to go through every few days.
The web interface requires a plugin that only works on IE proper on windows (have not tried safari on OSX)
It is a huge pain to get it working in iSpy and the connection is too flaky to be of any use with iSpy’s motion tracking
getting it on my Wifi network was a pain. Not sure if it was because my key has spaces, but it took multiple attempts to get it working
Zmodo’s DVRs suck. They always and I mean ALWAYS need to be rebooted but then only work for a few days before needing to be rebooted again. Their products are just not worth the hassle. Save your money and look elsewhere. Oh, and the mobile apps only work part of the time and never when you need it to.
All products come with a 2 - 3 year warranty. If your system keeps rebooting I suggest you call the tech support team for troubleshooting. They can be reached at 217-903-5307 Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Latest Zmodo has option to turn off sound alerts
New web interface doesn’t need IE or activeX plug in. You can see from any web browser that uses Flash. You can also use Zmodo url to login to the web portal using: user.zmodo.com
The lastest firmware updates no longer support Onvif, so iSpy so they will no longer work with iSpy.

Bait and switch. Beware! Woot will send lesser item and expect you’ll keep it to avoid return hassle. Classic bait and switch!
So is there a place where we can get the old firmware that still has support for iSpy? It doesn’t do me any good to record to micro-sd if they steal it, and support for cloud recording (which I don’t want to do anyways) has been “Coming Soon” for almost a year now last I checked.
just purchased 2 of these. Both are not connecting to my WI-FI. I also went to a friends house and well same results. i feel ripped off
I’m really sorry to hear that. If you haven’t already, please get in touch with Customer Service, they may be able to help you.
If you are planning to connect this camera to a video management system through ONVIF, do not bother. Although it states in the product’s description that ONVIF is supported, it is not. I couldn’t connect to my VMS and ZMODO came up with some silly reason why they no longer support ONVIF. I will be sending this back.
I bought one to give it a try. I had trouble getting it to connect to my wifi via the iPhone app.
I have a tri-band router and my phone usually connects to a 5ghz band. I forced the phone to the 2.4ghz band and tried setting up the camera and it worked. Then set phone back to 5ghz band.
I haven’t tried accessing the camera while away from the house but the app functions appear to work. I can record video, turn sound on and off, talk to the dogs, etc…
