Hmm… There’s a beta Android app, but it looks like it hasn’t been updated in over a year? Anyone using these with Android and/or can anyone save me some searching time and say whether the Android functionality is still being developed?

So apparently the app can only be used on iOS. That may or may not be a problem, but the real question I have is can these smart plugs be controlled by Alexa and my Amazon Echo without having to use their app at all…

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. If they do work with Alexa or Echo then I am interested but if I have all these smart appliances but they all require their own app then the whole idea of streamlining is moot. I need products that work together.

Truly a bummer that it doesn’t have android or Alexa support.

I was all ready to click that button! Man! What a cool little plug, but this… coming from their support page is pretty evident it’s not gonna work with Alexa:
"Zuli Smartplugs do not have wifi radios in them and do not work with wifi at this time. "

This set would have been just perfect. This was a kickstarter product and was truly expensive recently but now they’re SUPER cheap? Yeah. Damn. That doesn’t always mean they suck, hehehehe, but it’s a nice little reminder to thoroughly go and investigate it’s abilities.

No WIFI No ZWave no Android no sale. I would have bought a bunch of them. Its a pretty cool little switch.

I’m with these guys. ^^^^

In this day and age, there’s really no excuse for an app system that can only work with one OS. I would’ve bought these in a heartbeat, but we use Alexa and Android.

No wonder the price went so low, only works with I-Phones !

What communication does this use?
WiFi/Bluetooth

Can’t be Z-Wave or Zigbee since a hub is not required

According to CNET:
*
The Good The Bluetooth Presence technology is precise, plus energy tracking, Nest integration, and dimming all make this a veritable Renaissance plug.

The Bad The lack of remote access is annoying, and Android compatibility and user sharing both need to be made available before this plug is a clear industry leader.

The Bottom Line The Zuli Smartplug is a versatile and creative product, offering features that are new to the market. Its current quality warrants the cost of entry, and coming updates only sweeten the deal.*

I have 3 of these. The best way to describe them is that they are a smart electric timer. If you have manual timers in your house these are a great replacement. You can turn them on and off or set a schedule via the app. The bluetooth has excellent range but I have found these most useful setting on/off via the app and forgetting about them. It also shows power consumption which is interesting but after you have plugged a few things in to see what the power draw is you never use it again. Just my 2 cents.

Add Android and I would buy a bunch.

I would buy these to replace my manual timers but I wonder, can I set each plug to turn on and off multiple times a day as I do with my manual ones when I travel?
