What kind of solar rechargeable battery would be used as a replacement?

Depends but I typically found aaa ni-cads are the solar battery of choice.

I bought these last June. Glass solar panels with unsealed edges make them unsuitable for use on steps. I put them up on deck railings and sealed the edge of the solar panel to the plastic body with clear silicone caulk. To date the ones I put up are still working. However, they do need to get direct sunlight for best performance. Any of them placed where they get indirect sunlight or are shaded all day won’t charge enough to stay lit for more than an hour. 5 lumen lights is what I was told before I purchased them.

Can you add an image of how well they light? 5 lumen is pretty dim, which I like, just trying to see HOW dim, is dim

Product looks useful but the deal is meh, maybe when they hit $8 I’ll bite.

I bought this this past summer and don’t work anymore.
Do not recommend buying them for long term use.
They do look nice the first couple of months, maybe if you’re having an evening event in your backyard they would make your back yard look nice.

They are just bright enough to make sure you don’t miss the railing if you use them along a stairway. Or on a moonlees night make yourself look stupid by walking into the edge rail of the deck. The do look nice for about an hour or two each evening. Not enough light to see much of anything around them, but they also don’t seem to attack winged critters at all, and cost $0.00 to operate.

I don’t understand the differentiation between use on steps and use on railing if you’re going to seal them up anyway?

I’ve bought these twice and use them on a 22 x 22’ deck railing. When they function they’re beautiful at night. I bought extras for when they fail. Use the two little screws not the tape for easy maintenance. I didn’t seal them, only screwed in an orderly fashion on the railings.
I’ve found that after a heavy rain it is best to use a leaf blower and from the underside blow up to remove residual water that may get inside.
Concerning replacing the AAA battery inside, it is easy but not worth it because these are so cheap!! Occasionally I’ll open the ones that quit working to try and fix them… more for entertainment because again… they’re so cheap just install a new one. When I can’t repair it I add the rechargeable AAA to my stock. These will not drop to $8. They’re already ridiculously cheap! There was slight color variation between my two past shipments. Heck, I’m ordering them again to be sure I have plenty for years!

The solar cell is a three inch wide piece of glass that is poorly fit into a light plastic frame. Step on it a dozen times and I bet it will crack, making the solar cell useless.

Last time I commented, not necessary. However you’re probably correct. After a rain i blow mine out from the bottom and then straight on. It doesn’t take long. After a year or so the Ni-Mh need to be replaced. So far these have worked well for me.

Worked for about a month then they slowly started dying. They’re all in the trash now. They are good if youre going to have a gathering and want to fix up your patio.
