Funny how they claim 5 year service life but only give a 3 year limited warranty.
Edit:
The manufacturer may, at its discretion, fully discharge all obligations with respect to this warranty by refunding the WHOLESALE PRICE of the defective part(s)
All ozone machines are for UNOCCUPIED space only. Set a timer before you leave the room. Ensure that no people (or pets) are in the room when it’s working. Return to the room when all residual ozone reverts back to oxygen, which normally takes 30 minutes.
Oh boy, here we go again! (waits on the inevitable know-it-all commenters to stir the pot)
I ordered this a couple weeks ago and it arrived Saturday. The acid test was our son’s room which has a deep seated funk from years of sports and…boy. Pulling the pin and tossing in various air fresheners only masked the stench. This unit did a bang up job and made his room smell fresh! I’m sure I’ll need to hit it again periodically as he moves the piles of clothes and crap around but I was pleasantly surprised.
Next time I plan to leave him in the room and see if it makes him smell better too.
Can this be left in an unoccupied basement with people upstairs? Also, will it kill mice/vermin if they are in the basement?
Unless it is well sealed off from the upstairs, including any forced hot air heating systems being turned off if the furnace is there, I wouldn’t recommend it. When we put it in our son’s room (2nd floor) we could smell traces of the ozone coming out through the air gap at the bottom of the door when we went into the stairwell. Not enough to worry about for our small test. If you’re in a temperate climate and can leave the upstairs windows open you might be able to get away with it, but personally I wouldn’t risk it. Go for a drive or a hike or something instead for a couple hours.
This isn’t for pest control.
It seems as though these ozone generators are nothing more than snake oil. Ozone Generators that are Sold as Air Cleaners | US EPA
What you linked to concerns always on low level ozone air purifiers. They are designed to be run continuously while humans occupy the space. Those machines do not produce enough ozone to be effective in controlling odors and will likely malfunction and start producing levels of ozone that are harmful for occupied spaces. There is only one paragraph concerning this type of machine. A high concentration ozone device designed to be used occasionally in non human occupied spaces. It does say that they are effective in controlling odors etc. They only caveat that they add is that when used correctly there may be concerns with by product chemicals that may be produced. When used as directed there is little to no health concerns. Ozone while highly toxic to humans is extremely unstable and decomposes rapidly. That’s why is so effective in removing odors. If using one I’d let it sit for at least an hour after it finished and then vent the room for a couple of hours before occupying it again.
And as I predicted…
Might want to read up on the difference between “air purifiers” and “ozone generators”.
No, do not stay in the house when you use this machine. I have heard some have used these to kill bedbugs, but i think it is from a machine with even higher output than this machine. Not sure how well that worked. I have always wondered if it could kill termites but i doubt it, they are too deep in the wood.
Everyone getting so salty! Happy Holidays, all!
This is a pretty good article on what an ozone generator will kill and the risks involved.
I had something die in my car this summer when it was parked for a few weeks (mouse or squirrel)…I am thinking this is the kind of thing these are made for, right?
The smell is horrible when the weather is warm.
I have seen these used in cars for the smell and to sanitize. However, isn’t O2 destructive of plastic and nitrile rubber? That’s what most car interiors are made of.
When my FIL passed away and were selling off his vehicle, we needed to get it a major detailing. Including trying to get the years of dog dander smell out. It took two rounds of ozoning by the detailer to finally get it cleared up, but it did work! The issue will be WHERE the rodent died and IF the ozone can reach it. If it can, then it might just help.
(edit for spelling)
I have an ozone machine similar to this and use it regularly. I have a billiards room in my house where we regularly smoke cigars indoors. I have an air purifier to clear the smoke out (RabbitAir MinusA2) and then after we are done or the next morning, run the ozone to clear residual smoke smell out.
These things are phenomenal at removing odors. When we sold our last house, I had a much smaller room we smoked cigars in, and it was carpeted. When we sold the house we shampooed the carpet and ran the ozone but did not paint or remove the furniture. No one knew the wiser that we had smoked in there. It took running the ozone machine quite a bit and wiping down all the furniture, but these things are little miracle workers.
As others have said, don’t use it while occupied, but a tiny bit of seepage won’t be a big problem.
As to the car question, dealerships use these things all the time to clear smoke smell out of used vehicles they are going to sell. Using it occasionally on the interior of a car should not harm anything. I wouldn’t do it nonstop all the time, but this isn’t that type machine anyway.
I point mine towards the north pole and let it run an hour every night. Doing my part!
yes and no. I leave mine on in the basement… no issues…it won’t kill mice or vermin…just microscopic stuff…
I can’t tell you anything about this machine or company. However, I use ozone at my shop and business. It’s great for neutralizing odors and smells. I deal with antiques and fine furniture…Old person smell, smoke, and pets are my biggest issues. I can put smoke and soot covered furniture in a room, let it run for a few days, and you won’t smell anything afterwards. Its good, effective and safe if used properly. I leave mine on at home 24/7, but on low by the litter box. No issues… However, if you use any spray cleaners, bleach etc, and the ozone levels are high, it will react…and you will see and smell it…so, be smart. You won’t need any fragrance to mask, because ozone will kill it. The advice I give is make sure you can get spare parts and or they will service it at a address in the states… these will go bad after a few years, and you need to change plates in the inside once or twice a year. Other than that…ozone works great!
