Does this come with an initial filter? Or does one need to purchase one listed after this device? The filter being nearly half the machine cost!
These days, many filters are hand wash/rinse. Avoid entirety of garbage ending up in landfill + focus on parts re-use, renew & recycle.

Just to clarify, it looks as though you think this is an air purifier or air filter. This is in fact a dehumidifier that uses desiccant beads to passively draw moisture out of the air. Basically you place the pill looking cartridge in a small area that you need to control the humidity (closets, gun safes, fire safe). The beads in the cartridge passively absorb moisture. When the beads change color from orange to green, you place the cartridge on the heater base (presumably in another part of the house or outside) where it heats up the cartridge to release the moisture in the beads. Once the cartridge is dried out it place it back in the area you want to control humidity. You could have multiple cartridges, but only need the one heater base.
Manufacturer site might explain it better than I can. This is the first time I have seen this product, but get the general idea of how it works from the descriptions.
TL;DR - Basically a reusable “Damp-Rid”.
