Alienware X17 R2 17.3" Gaming Laptop

Alienware X17 R2 17.3" Gaming Laptop

It’s big, it’s beefy, it’s expensive, and the battery lasts for about 4 hours in the most extreme power saving mode. In a nutshell, it’s the classic gaming laptop.

Is it worth the price? Maybe. For a 16+ inch gaming laptop with a high-end processor and a 3070Ti or higher, $1600 appears to be a decent price. If you live near a Micro Center, there are some comparable-to-slightly-better laptops available for about $1500:

There’s also one that they’ve priced pretty competitively at about $1300:

While this guy is only 16", it has a 2k display, twice the RAM, and a faster graphics card.

Anyway, these are only offered as potential alternatives. Alienwares tend to have fairly decent build quality, at least in recent years, and I can’t speak to these others, though Acers have been pretty cheap-feeling in my experience. Specs alone don’t always tell the story! But if you only care about specs, then there are likely better deals to be had.

I’ve had many laptops over the years, and always had excellent support from Dell, even on their outlet refurbs. The Asus I had literally disintegrated, but they were using a new, more recyclable plastic for the case, so I can’t completely blame them.

This is a good deal if you want a high quality laptop.

While some may not like the FHD resolution (1080p), the refresh rate is insane at 480hz. I actually prefer my X17 screen to my MacBook Pro Retina display. The X17 screen is so crisp, very pleasing to the eyes.

Starfield looks great on the X17.

The X17 is the “deluxe” model from Alienware, making everything a little better compare to their M series.

This computer is designed to pull as much wattage as you need to give you great performance.

These machines are designed to run all the time while pulling maximum wattage. Very high quality.

Hot air vents out of the top but away from your hands.

Lots of LED colors you can change.

All Alienware laptops are big and heavy but the X2 is quite thin compared to the M laptops.

I love my X17. Really great quality computer that is built like a tank!

I bought an Alienware X17 R1 about 5 years ago, I still use it (not my daily user). It’s a beast. I recently upgraded the SSDs and the RAM, which is easy on these laptops (by design). I also did a wipe and reformat. Thing runs like new and runs games like R6 Seige all day. Things can change over the years with companies and quality, but if the Alienware division is running like it did back then, you shouldn’t be disappointed with this bad boy.
