Hold out for the Fire 10 (2019 or newer). Soooo much better.

Great ! Already bought it

Just remember to check the chart. This would be “good” (debatable) and “cheap”.

It all depends what you want to do with it. I picked up an older one for $15 from here not long back and it’s slow but I can read books and play lightweight games. That’s all I need.

Edit: mine is a fire 7, 2017 edition. I just looked back at my order history.

would this be fine for someone older who just wants to use youtube and browser? or would they get too frustrated?

Going by @viriiman 's chart, I agree this falls into the light blue (cyan?) category of “Good + Cheap = Not Fast”

While it works to consume media, it is not for folks who like to “browse YouTube channels”, as it is slow and annoying to wait for things to load. The UI is not “snappy”.

The following is in quotes and italics “just for the sake of it”.

Horrible quality on this model. I owned the previous fire 7 when it still had a year warranty when new. Not fast but it held up. We bought one of these for each of our kids on this generation and 3 of 4 of them stopped charging within 6 months. The cables and ports were fine they just wouldn’t charge. Coincidentally this is when Amazon changed the warranty to only 3 months.

I bought one new…it’s SLOW!

Bought one of these around Christmas to replace one that we had that had lasted a while for kids use. The more recent one lasted maybe 2 months and now it’s non responsive. Can’t even boot it up anymore, just spins and spins at the boot screen. Not sure id grab another even though they are really cheap, but also not sure I wouldn’t grab another because they are really cheap. The predicament with something for kids, I want it to work but they’re going to destroy it anyway…

Don’t bother. It is slow useless. Will not run the apps I need. Just does e-mail. Cannot use it.

So I presume that some people will be getting this just to get the Kindle trade-in discount on Amazon?

I’ve had one since 2017, it’s fine for normal stuff (9" fire HD $170 bucks). And when I got if from Woot, it was refurbished already. Good service for the time used.

We’ve bought a few of these for kids over the years (not necessarily the 2019 model). They’re not amazing but pretty good for light tasks and at 25 bucks it’s not so painful to see them get broken.

For what it’s worth YMMV on add supported - some of ours have had ads and some have been ad free.

Marginally better than a brick. Unless you plan to throw it, then I’d go with the brick.

The I cancelled it after the wonderful reviews. I appreciate you all
