My HD 10 is the 2019 version and is still holding up.
BB would only give $5 for trade in 5 months ago so I held onto it.

Glad you did hold on to yours. I usually recommend to not give up a functional tab, lest one is starting to have batt probs. Even then… Holding on to one is still a wise choice IMO.

For example, one of this household tabs is an AMZN Fire HDX 8.9. It’s occasionally disconnected for portability, but due to its age, & its batt thus not lasting long, it’s usually just left connected to power on the nite stand like an alarm clock. Except it’s also Net-capable & able to access mail, streaming services, etc.

Whether the port is USB A, deprecated mini A, µA, the various deprecated Bs, or USB C… For many users, that port is less important than the other features an electronic device is capable of. Particularly since the tabs of this gen are storage expandable, with up to a ¼ TB SD card. “Newer” in gen/rev in today’s rapid consumer-grade software release cycle does not always mean “better”/bug-less.

For example, I bought a brand-spanking new Fire HD 10 directly from AMZN in 11/2020. Therefore, it was a G9/2019/KFMAWI/“Maverick”. It was running FireOS7.3.1.7. Remember that FireOS is a branch/derivative of AndroidOS. A long time ago in some old AndroidOS rev, the display-view-mode-locked-then-switched-by-an-app-and-then-auto-switch-back issue was already resolved. (Just in case a refresher is needed: An user locks the display view in one mode, landscape or portrait. An app requiring the display in the opposite mode switches it to the other. Upon termination of the process or switching from that process to another, the OS is to auto-switch back to the mode that the user previously locked the device in.) AMZN re-introduced that bug in that FireOS rev, where it does not auto-switch back. I had to unlock the undesired display view mode, shake the tab to switch back to the desired mode I had it in, and then re-lock. Tedious to say the least. After much back-and-forth with poor English-speaking and -typing AMZN Tech Supp Reps, the bug remained unresolved by end-of-01/2021. I eventually had to return it.

The FireHD G7/2017 of this Woot sale, KFSUWI/“Suez”, running older FireOS5.6 or 7.. (considered functionally capable to AndroidOS5.1.1) never re-introduced that bug. When AMZN Woot has this gen/model on sale, I recommend friends & family & coworkers to buy them as cheap A/V playback/streaming devices. I still occasionally get a few as holiday stocking stuffers.

Remember that while initially installed with AMZN FireOS, which uses only AMZN App Store (which, yes, already includes many popular apps), any end-user, however “green” or basic one thinks one is, can install GOOG Play on top of FireOS5 on these tabs. A tremendous amount of additional apps then become available for use! For a mere $40!!!
