How can one even get into the settings or select any channels or apps without a remote? Aren’t TVs now useless without a remote?

At least they were kind enough in the listing to link to a compatible remote.

(answered in the other Fire TV listing too)

Not an expert on all things Fire TV so could be wrong but whenever I find myself searching for my Fire Stick remote & can’t locate it…I always end up remembering there is an app where you can use phone as a remote. Has worked well when I have used it

I have two of these in the house and can safely say… that I don’t recommend them. Don’t get me wrong: they have great picture and sound quality. The TV itself is really good, especially for the price. The problem isn’t the TV, but the built-in smart device.

Having cycled through 5-6 different Fire and Roku TVs in the last decade I’ve noticed something. The Fire (or Roku) devices that are built-in are nowhere near as powerful as the standalone streaming devices. After only a year or two they are bogged down. Slower processors and less memory. The apps are nowhere near as responsive as they are on a newer-model standalone streaming stick.

These were a nice idea for awhile, but now I will only buy “dumb” TVs and separate streaming sticks. I have no problem replacing the sticks at $30/pop every couple years when they get bogged down. I’d feel like absolute crap throwing out a perfectly good big-screen TV just because its built-in Fire component has become outdated.

TL;DR version: the TV itself will greatly outlive the integrated Fire TV component.

And included a link to instructions on how to pair a compatible remote…But you got to access the settings to do that. Can that be done without a remote?
