The voice search is pretty good. Real example: I couldn’t remember a corny old movie that I saw as a child so I prompted, “Movie with Bette Davis and Henry Fonda”
Immediately displayed information about “Jezzabel (1938)” with links to services to stream it.

Should probably indicate somewhere this is the original Fire TV Stick 4K first released in 2018 and not the 2023 version with faster hardware and wifi 6 support.

Be warned. This remote will crap out. Battery drain issues. You’ll have to get replacement from Amazon

Does this device have the capability to record shows to watch later? If not, are there any that can?

That would be up to each individual app. There are stand alone boxes that support DVR behavior for over the air stations.

Yes

Amazon removed Dolby Vision and Atmos, unless you PAY to go ad-free for an additional $2.99 a month on top of your Prime membership.

It would probably be a good idea to read the most recent reviews on Amazon before purchasing. Something is clearly going on.

Be aware that streaming devices age just like any other computer. A 2018 stick is going to work ok, but it will switch apps and load new stuff slower than a new one. If you’ve got a brand new FireTV this stick is going to seem a little sluggish.

Also, some apps stop supporting older devices, since their App gets more complex. One of my older units doesn’t even support AppleTV+ or Disney+.

I own one of these 2018 sticks as a travel unit to plug in at hotels/AirBNBs and am replacing it with a newer Roku. All my home TVs are Rokus, and if I don’t think to plug it up before I travel the Fire stick needs an update as soon as connected at the destination, and is soo slow to update.

Also Fire sticks tend to need more power, I’ve always been able to use a Roku stick powered off the TV’s built-in USB port, but my Fire stick requires a higher-powered adapter.

Just my 2 cents, brand new Roku Stick 4k’s are only $40 right now.

All good info, guys! Although now I’m worried this Fire stick I’ve had stashed away as a spare (for a year or 3) may have “spoiled”… the big screen in the main TV room has a wired hook up, so the Fire stick on there is mostly wasted with no direct connect, so…

Try Tablo.
