the sticks in the first and second photos are different .the first is 4k second is the 1st generation?
which one is it

The header states that its the 2019 but the specs stats 2016. Which one is it?

You are showing different remotes. One with volume control and one without. Which is it? Come on Woot, let’s get your act together.

Hello, I can see how it’s confusing - as listed in the features and specs, the remote is the 2019 release with the volume controls and the fire TV stick is the 2nd gen 2016 release.

This is the remote with volume controls.

Does it matter that the listing is confusing when the 4k stick is routinely for sale at $5 more than this price direct from Amazon? This isn’t a deal.

This is what we’re selling. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0791TX5P5 It’s the Fire TV Stick 2nd Gen (2016 release) however the remote is the newer version with volume controls and mute (2019 release). This is not the 4k version. Thanks for the call out on the second photo not showing volume controls. That has been removed.

$5 is 20%. It’s new so I don’t know what % off it would have to be to be considered a deal.
Right now Amazon is selling a refurbished version of this for $35.
The cheapest FireTV Amazon is selling right now is $29 new.

Yeah. I’ve purchased the 4K version from amazon for 24.99. Hard pass on this.

Except a reasonable deal shopper does take historically common prices into consideration.

The regular non-4K FireTV Stick has been regularly available for $20 from Amazon.

And the 4K version has regularly been available to $25 from Amazon.

We’ve used the non-4K and 4K versions of the FireTV Stick.

Even if you could care less about 4K, the everyday experience with the 4K version is noticeably more pleasant for a simple reason: the 4K version has a faster CPU. That makes its responsiveness noticeably snappier.

And as a bonus, it’s getting more difficult to even buy a non-4K TV, so future proof.

Also note that faster CPU makes future feature additions more likely. Over on the ROKU, an existing 4K ROKU recently was more likely to get Apple AirPlay added via update, regardless of whether that example feature matters to you.

I’ve got a FireTV Stick of some sort on 5 of the 6 TVs in my house right now. One is a 4K, one is a gen 2 with the older remote, and the rest are gen 2 with the TV controls remote. The new “Lite” version is pretty cheap, but appears to just be a gen 2 with the old style remote. And as many have noted, the configuration on sale here does go on sale on Amazon for $20 on occasion, but more often, the sale price has been $25, so this is a decent deal either way.

I’m not sure where people are seeing the 4K go on sale for $25… I’ve only seen that happen once, just shortly after they were first introduced, and that’s why I only own one of that version. Maybe Amazon gives different users “special” pricing on occasion to get them to try things out.

But the moral of my story here is that no matter which model/version it is, they all have WAY too little storage space on them for apps/games/etc. Especially if you have a lot of kids that like to play those Jackbox games that download ~2gb of data when you start them up. Every time they want to play a different one, I have to uninstall all the others and clear the cached data on all the other apps just to make enough room.

Deal states free shipping for prime but shipping is being charged. Also, order not going through. Is this deal already dead?

This is true, I have noticed it… The 4K also has 1.5gb of DDR4 RAM as opposed to 1gb (prob DDR3) for the gen 1 & 2, plus Dolby ATMOS.

Make sure you signed into Woot with your Amazon account.

In my experience, the performance difference of the 4K vs regular FireTV in the real world is easily worth even $10, $15 more. It is that noticeable. Most folks will live with the Stick for several years. We aren’t talking about $130 vs $100 It is $25/30/35 vs $20. The materiality of the % $ difference matters.

But yah, if $5-15 spread over 3-7 years matters that much to someone’s budget, this $20 price is a decent deal for this model. Just remember, once you have a 4K TV, this becomes a closet dust collector.

Eh, a lot depends on personal need… 3 of the 5 gen 2 sticks I have are on my daughter’s TVs, and another is on my bedroom TV that really doesn’t get used much at all. The gen 2 works totally fine for these situations. One of my girls had a gen 1 up until about 6 months ago, but the performance difference between that version and any of the others was profound. It was regularly overheating as well (I did remove the case and drill 6-8 holes in each side, that helped some).

So yeah, I agree that a few bucks more for the 4K is definitely worth it, but like I also mentioned, for a lot of my uses the gen 2 suffices. And between the 4 of those, I guess it saved me $20-$30 (got one for $15 last Black Friday) total over buying all 4K models.
